  Being critical of illegal immigration is "hate speech" apparently. At that rate, we seem very close to being unable to criticize anybody for anything without being accused of "hate" — though criticizing Christians, conservatives, and whites is always OK of course. Many American universities these days have programs of "white studies" - which consist of one long tirade of real hate towards whites "A national Latino group said Thursday it is fighting back against what it considers to be "hate speech" that has emerged from the debate over immigration.

  The head of the country’s largest Latino civil rights organization called on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News to stop providing a forum for pundits who consistently disparage the documented and undocumented Hispanic immigrant population. The group, the National Council of La Raza (meaning “the people”), also has asked Mike Huckabee to renounce the endorsement of Jim Gilchrist, a co-founder of the Minuteman Project.

  We read: "A federal judge has rejected a claim that the Poway Unified School District violated a teenager's First Amendment rights by pulling him out of class for wearing a T-shirt with an anti-gay slogan. Tuesday's ruling by U.S. District Judge John Houston reaffirmed an earlier decision in which he found the school district's policy on hate speech lawful. Tyler Harper sued the school in 2004 after the district said he could not wear a shirt printed with a Bible verse condemning homosexuality.

• Leftist hate speech against “The rich” (etc.)

  Obama uses such hate speech reflexively — until he is forced to back off by a reference to reality. Excerpt below: “One need not follow Democratic politics too carefully to hear who the bad guys are. They are often singled out as a specific class, with the phrases “wealthy Americans” or “the wealthiest of Americans.” This happens most frequently when Democrats, refusing to acknowledge that taxes were cut earlier this decade for all Americans (the poor and the middle class included).

  I’ve read Obama’s speech 3 times and seen it twice while reading a good two dozen takes on it from right and left and frankly, I am at a loss. I am OverObamad. My views have whipsawed back and forth between Allah’s incredibly effective, screeching accusation that Obama is a monumental liar and hypocrite to the more staid but equally devastating take by Michael Gerson: The problem with Obama’s argument is that Wright is not a symbol of the strengths and weaknesses of African Americans.
