3Q Earnings Update: Disappointment Abounds
The earnings of companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index that have issued third-quarter reports are running 4.6% lower than year-earlier results, according to Thomson Financial.
Of the 500 companies, 498, or 100%, had reported earnings for the quarter as of Thursday. So far, third-quarter earnings have come in 2.1% lower than analysts’ expectations.
Compared with a year earlier, earnings of S&P 500 companies are expected to fall 4.5% in the third quarter. That figure reflects actual earnings for the companies that already have reported and average estimates for the rest.lire la suite
