- Who's Ready For The Fake Teams Fantasy Football League?
You may have noticed a new advertisement on the site -- Register to win a chance to play fantasy football with SBNation bloggers. Sounds pretty cool, right? It would sound very cool except for the part where THEY LEFT US OUT!!! The marketing agreement with AOL only covered the 32 SBNation NFL blogs. In a stroke of marketing genius, they held a fantasy sports competition and forgot to invite the fantasy sports blog.
- 2008 Fake Teams Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft
Sunday night, I had the pleasure of participating in a mock draft with a number of fantasy bloggers for Seamless Baseball's 2008 fantasy guide. My fellow experts were: 1. Pete Abbate and Zach Piso of Rotonomics 2. Bob Taylor of Fantasy Hurler 3. Brad Stewart of MLB Front Office 4. Tim McLeod of RotoRob 5. David Chase of Brock for Broglio 6. Tony in Hitchin of Fantasy Baseball Mafia 7.
- Fantasy Baseball: NL Closers
Of all players drafted on a roto/fantasy baseball team, the closer spot has more volatility than a day of trading at the NYSE...well....not in the past month or so. History has shown that he who starts the season as closer has a very good chance at losing that spot by the end of the season. Here is what happened in 2008, along with predictions for 2009: Team Apr-08 Oct-08 Apr-09 New York Wagner Ayala Fuentes Philadelphia Lidge Lidge Lidge Florida Gregg Lidstrom Lidstrom Atlanta Soriano Gonzalez Gonzalez Washington Cordero Hanrahan Hanrahan Chicago Wood Wood Wood Milwaukee Gagne Torres Torres Houston Valverde Valverde Valverde St.
- 2Silos 3rd Annual Holiday Wine Party
2Silos 3rd Annual Holiday Wine Party I really wish I had taken pictures…I had a FABULOUS time last night at Denise’s (of 2Silos fame) wine party last night. I feel honored that she invited us, and am so glad that she did. In addition to feasting on homemade cheese, delicious chicken paprikash (Denise, I *want* that recipe ), muscovy duck, lamb, and much more, I got the opportunity to try tons of wine I would have never had the opportunity to otherwise.
- Interested In A Fantasy Baseball League?
I know there are a few folks who have an interest in playing in a Fantasy Baseball League… So, going to run one here - if we can get the numbers! Put your name down, don’t be shy! I’ll have a look around - there’ll be prizes in it for the winner (tho’ exactly what not quite sure yet!)…
- The Fake Teams Fanhouse League Drafts Today
As part of an agreement between SBNation and AOL, each SBNation football blog is hosting their own AOL Fanhouse Fantasy Football League. Originally Fake Teams had been left out of this deal, but after a discussion with the SBNation Leadership involving torches and a pitchfork, they agreed to incorporate our Fake Teams League into the promotion. That means our league is legitimate (which is nice) and the winner of the league is eligible for a great prize (which is nicer).
- Fake Teams AOL Fanhouse League Draft
The Fake Teams AOL Fanhouse League drafted on Saturday and it was as crazy as you’d expect a 16 team IDP draft to be. I’ll review the first three picks for some selected teams. Remember, in a 16 team draft the first 48 players only make up three rounds. In a 12 team league you’d get these players in four rounds, in a ten team league they would make up almost five full rounds.
- 2009 Fantasy Baseball Rankings: Starting Pitchers
Yesterday, I did a quick Top 10 for the 2009 fantasy baseball season. At #9 and #10 was Carlos Quentin and Ian kinsler. Those spots could have been easily occupied by Ryan Braun and Josh Hamilton. Or by a starting pitcher. My question is which one. Do you take a veteran ace like Johan Santana? Or a new veteran ace like C.C. Sabathia? Or an fresh ace like Tim Lincecum. Here are the three pitchers relevent fantasy stats.
- Fantasy Baseball: Runs Created-Useful Stat??
Bill James, the king of sabermetrics, coined the term "Runs Created", in his Baseball Abstract many years ago. Runs created, according to Wikipedia, is a statistic intended to quantify a player's contribution to runs scored, as well as a team's expected number of runs scored. Runs created is calculated from other offensive statistics. James' first version of it: Runs Created = (Total Bases * (Hits + Walks))/(Plate Appearances).
