Sunday night, I had the pleasure of participating in a mock draft with a number of fantasy bloggers for Seamless Baseball's 2008 fantasy guide. My fellow experts were: 1. Pete Abbate and Zach Piso of Rotonomics 2. Bob Taylor of Fantasy Hurler 3. Brad Stewart of MLB Front Office 4. Tim McLeod of RotoRob 5. David Chase of Brock for Broglio 6. Tony in Hitchin of Fantasy Baseball Mafia 7. Knox Bardeen of Crooked Pitch 8. three Seamless goons from Seamless Baseball The draft was held on Mock Draft Central. Each team ne... lire la suite

We're hours away from the real draft and outside of the top two picks, anything seems to be happening in everyone's mock drafts. Brook Lopez dropping to 10 or as high as 3? Russel Westbrook going as low as 12 but as high as 3? DJ Augustin available at 13 but also going at number 6 to the Knicks?
NBA Mock Draft I’ll update the mock from time to time as the process unfolds but I wanted to get something up prior to Orlando and team workouts. This mock is less a prediction and more a record of what I would do as the GM of each team. Although I anticipate that trades will change the draft order, perhaps radically, my interest is in matching player and team.
NBA Mock Draft Previously I offered some thoughts on which players the lottery teams should select. Here are my thoughts on the rest of the first round. Phoenix Brandon Rush, Kansas, SG Rush is an excellent jump shooter that has improved his off-the-dribble game substantially.
I don’t know if you are a fantasy baseball player (I used to be, but haven’t played in a couple of years), but if so, check out the five Reds to watch over at The Fantasy Baseball Generals.
Here is a discussion thread for the Mock Draft. The Draft begins in about an hour, at noon central promptly. The process is easy. For each round I will post a new thread. a thread for the first round, a new thread for the supplemental first round, a new thread for the second round, etc.
Aaron Hicks gets drafted by the Mets in the mock. The Mets to me have been a team that has drafted college pitchers/toolsy outfielders, and signed a lot of ceiling guys internationally. I think that they get a hybrid a really toolsy, ceiling guy. I voted differently, but once again I wouldn't scream too much over this selection.
So, Josh Fields was up. Then I think people on the board got a little over enthusiastic about the young man. And then, there was a Friedrich backlash vote. Just callin' em as I see em. Not that that was a bad pick by any means. I thought they were probably 1 and 2 and not separated by that much.
I am wondering if anyone else has had difficulty getting access to the site over the last 2 days. Its been excruciatingly hard for me. Well Cole comes off the board and we have Milwaukee up next. They are the poster team for best talent available after going for LaPorta last year.
I had the second pick in Mock Draft Central's 5th 2008 Expert Fantasy Football Mock Draft. It was a 4 pt per TD, 3 WR, no Flex set-up that was standard beyond those settings. With the second pick, I took Adrian Peterson of Minnesota. I debated Brian Westbrook of Philadelphia but decided against him mostly because the format was not PPR (points per reception).
The Fake Teams AOL Fanhouse League drafted on Saturday and it was as crazy as you’d expect a 16 team IDP draft to be. I’ll review the first three picks for some selected teams. Remember, in a 16 team draft the first 48 players only make up three rounds. In a 12 team league you’d get these players in four rounds, in a ten team league they would make up almost five full rounds.
I participated in my 1st mock draft of the fantasy football season at Mock Draft Central this morning. The decision to do so was spur of the moment, and I barely had an idea of whch players I wanted later in the draft i. e. sleepers and who could be decent (800 yards) WRs to fill-out a couple of bench spots.
The always outstanding Mock Draft Central recently had it’s second FFL Experts Mock Draft, which you can find here. Having mock drafts in June is a little bit goofy considering how many player battles still need to be resolved, but it’s fun to start looking at them. The first six picks were:
For those of you inroto/fantasy leagues where you get to draft and keep minor leaguers, Jason Grey's chats over at ESPN. com are a must read. He is a graduate of the MLB scouting program, as well as both a Tout Wars and LABR champion. In addition to answering general fantasy baseball questions, he answers alot of questions on minor leaguers with a fantasy spin.
With the trade of Kevin Gregg from the Florida Marlins to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for AA closer Jose Ceda, the 2009 fantasy baseball closer watch kicks off. With so many fantasy draft strategies on closers centered on ignoring them at the draft, fantasy players constantly scour the free agent pool in hopes of finding the "free" 20+ Saves an undrafted closer provides.
Of all players drafted on a roto/fantasy baseball team, the closer spot has more volatility than a day of trading at the NYSE. well. not in the past month or so. History has shown that he who starts the season as closer has a very good chance at losing that spot by the end of the season.
With the NFL, and fantasy football, kicking-off tonight, there is no better time to begin looking forward to the 2009 fantasy baseball season. The first thing I do is look at the data from the current season. Whose hitting HRs? Stealing bases? Hitting for AVG? Striking out batters?
Bill James, the king of sabermetrics, coined the term "Runs Created", in his Baseball Abstract many years ago. Runs created, according to Wikipedia, is a statistic intended to quantify a player's contribution to runs scored, as well as a team's expected number of runs scored. Runs created is calculated from other offensive statistics.
Yesterday, I did a quick Top 10 for the 2009 fantasy baseball season. At #9 and #10 was Carlos Quentin and Ian kinsler. Those spots could have been easily occupied by Ryan Braun and Josh Hamilton. Or by a starting pitcher. My question is which one. Do you take a veteran ace like Johan Santana?
As part of an agreement between SBNation and AOL, each SBNation football blog is hosting their own AOL Fanhouse Fantasy Football League. Originally Fake Teams had been left out of this deal, but after a discussion with the SBNation Leadership involving torches and a pitchfork, they agreed to incorporate our Fake Teams League into the promotion.
So, this is my last, pathetic attempt at a mock draft. I've done more mocks this year than any other year, and the reason why is I've been more focused on this year's draft than any other. It was a goal of mine (a small one, mind you) to have better draft coverage in 2008. I hope I've done that for you guys.
