Days late and dollars short, it's your SFist recap of the Queens Of The Stone Age gig last December 21 at The Warfield. Our photos were delayed by Technology. SFist.com: "Putting the 'teh' back in Tehknology."
Q.) What are theees "Queens Of The Stone Age?"
A.) That'd be a band that makes hip-shakin' heavy rock 'n roll for adults.
On the second night of their sold-out stand at The Warfield, the red-headed sloe-eyed frontguy Josh Homme stepped to the mic between song and announced that the night before he'd been drunk as heck onstage and therefore "tonight.

Stone-Age Men Killed For Their Women
If you think dating is hard today, it’s nothing compared to 7,000 years ago: stone-age men "hunt" for women, and will kill for them: Many archaeologists have argued that women have long motivated cycles of violence and blood feuds throughout history but there has really been no solid archaeological evidence to support this view. Now a relatively [...] [lien] [EN]

What is This Mysterious Stone Age Object?
Archaeologists digging at Zaraysk, Russia, unearthed a trove of Stone Age figurines and carvings, including something puzzling: a cone-shaped object whose function remains a mystery: Also among the finds was an object carved from mammoth ivory, shaped like a cone with its top removed. The cone is densely ornamented and has a hole running through its [...] [lien] [EN]

Back To The Stone Age
The Washington Post reports on some new studies that call for a reduction of carbon emissions by industrialized countries to zero. Avoid the rush, stop breathing now. The task of cutting greenhouse gas emissions enough to avert a dangerous rise in global temperatures may be far more difficult than previous research suggested, say scientists who have just published studies indicating that it would require the world to cease carbon emissions altogether within a matter of decades. Their findings, published in separate journals over the past few weeks, suggest that both industrialized and developing nations must wean themselves off fossil fuels by as early as mid-century in order to prevent warming that could change precipitation patterns and dry up sources of water worldwide. Using advanced computer models to factor in deep. [lien] [EN]

Script Review Hints Oliver Stone's 'W' Might Just Be A Well-Cast April Fool's Joke [Defamer Investigates]
The hyper-sensitive Defamer April Fool's Bullshit Scanner went off again moments ago as we browsed ABC.com's exclusive screenplay review of W, Oliver Stone's upcoming biopic about the transition of George W. Bush from spoiled drunk Texas asshole to election-stealing, malaprop-slinging, Jesus-loving Texas asshole. To this very moment, in fact, we can't verify the legitimacy of Marcus Baram's trenchant read-through whose very headline — "Daddy Issues, War Lust in Oliver Stone's W" — flirts with incredulity. To that end, we combed through Baram's script review in an attempt to determine the moments that seem authentic versus those that appear to be inexplicably hacky: We Think We Buy: "When his father cries after losing to Bill Clinton in 1992, Bush sticks it to his dad by telling him that he would have won if he'd ousted Saddam at the end of the first Gulf War. Funcom - Age Of Conan Reviewable In A Month [E308]
I was visiting the Eidos area early, chatting with the man in the Age of Conan t-shirt waving a sword around about World of Warcraft, when a realization dawned on me. I never actually reviewed Age of Conan. I had done initial impressions, but I never deemed the game final enough for a full-fledged review. I asked the PR guy, but as the question left my lips, Age of Conan product manager Erling Ellingsen wandered by. You may remember Erling from the PVP video I posted a couple months back. Yes, he is just as glorious in real life. So I posed he question to him. "When will Age of Conan be complete enough for a full review?" His answer? "About a month."So there you go folks, directly from the product manager. Age of Conan should be review ready in a month. [lien] [EN]
