As the one-year anniversary of Hexion Specialty Chemicals‘ bid for Huntsman nears, the union of two large chemical makers is close to collapse. But Huntsman and its chief executive, Peter Huntsman, have signaled that they are not about to give up the fight, including by extending the deal’s deadline a second time, to Oct.

OK, I'm heading out soon but when I get back we better have Jason Bay in left field. That's all I'm saying. Here's an open thread for everything trade deadline. Admins may update this front page with the latest Manny Ramirez and other Sox news. If we don't jump on it quick, post everything in the comments.

She’s had the worst week of her life. Now, as she goes on the run with a photographer who once stalked her, an insider who knows her well reveals she’s been fighting manic depression for a year… The young woman was adamant: They’re not sending me to the nut house,” she shouted into her mobile phone.
Yesterday, while I was on a panel discussion at LeWeb3 talking about the future of video something happened that discussed my future. I was driving the computer during the panel discussion, demonstrating bleeding edge video technologies like Seesmic and Kyte on stage when someone wrote in my Kyte.
The San Francisco Chronicle's Peter Hartlaub has put together a dead pool of some of the video game industry's longest running, longest in the tooth franchises. It's not a bet necessarily on who will.
Will.
Joe Borowski, pictured to our right after doing something crappy like loading the bases or serving up a ninth-inning bomb, has landed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained triceps muscle. The Cleveland Indians closer has lost most of his velocity since Spring -- his fastball is topping out at 83 mph -- and after being examined by doctors, he was told to stop sucking at pitching for a while.
For all of the grumbling about the continued reliance on cagey-yet-awful veterans, I have faith that both Ray Durham and Rich Aurilia will not be on the active roster by September. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. So I propose a kind of "dead pool" -- who goes first?

The AFTRA-AMPTP deal closed very early this morning (while I was still asleep). First, here is AFTRA's press release and fact sheet about it, followed by the AMPTP's statement and then SAG's statement. But, in looking it over, I can see right away that AFTRA gave away major concessions when it came to the all-important clips issue by failing to do the heavy-lifting negotiating with the AMPTP and thus leaving all the power over it with the moguls for the next 3 years (and probably in perpetuity).
The weather in Atlanta has reached the mid-90s in recent days, but that doesn’t compare to the heat that SunTrust Banks is feeling. The Atlanta-based bank’s stock has fallen nearly every day for weeks, and now Richard X. Bove, the ubiquitous bank analyst at Ladenburg Thalmann, has declared the firm “now worth more dead than alive.
UPDATES with AMPTP response today. We already know that SAG offered a counter-proposal to the AMPTP's supposed "final" offer. For once, SAG and the AMPTP agree on the reasons why.
