As part of my ongoing series on blog resources, so far I’ve covered Blogging Resources and Sources to Help You Blog, Blog Resources for English Language and Blog Writing, and Blog Resources: Researching the Research, Finding the Facts, and Seeking Supporting Evidence. Today, I’m offering the resources I use for business and professional sources of information to help me blog and write. Blogging is writing and while the debate over whether or not a blogger can be considered a journalist and accorded the same rights, a blogger is a writer and self-publisher, thus covered by many of the laws and guides in place for writers. NY Times reports research findings on Facebook

Interesting article yesterday from the NY times that outlines some of the research findings on Facebook users (spotted via Bokardo). Some interesting quotes from the article: Researchers learned that while people perceive someone who has a high number of friends as popular, attractive and self-confident, people who accumulate “too many” friends (about 800 or more) are seen as insecure… Eszter Hargittai, a professor at Northwestern, found in a study that Hispanic students were significantly less likely to use Facebook, and much more likely to use MySpace. White, Asian and Asian-American students, the study found, were much more likely to use Facebook and significantly less likely to use MySpace… [lien] [EN]

As a blogger and professional editorial and technical writer, I have collected a variety of online resources and references to help me write, blog, and work. The following are a list of Internet resources, sources, references, guides, and tools that help me with my basic blog writing research and publishing. I use these resources to help me research, but also as link recommendations in my technical article. As a professional writer and blogger, it’s important to keep a stash of resources and links to save time. Every blogger has their own unique list of resources and sources they call upon. Blog Resources for English Language and Blog Writing

I blog in English and it behooves me to get it write - okay, at least once in a while. The challenges I face as a writer are not just generating ideas but finding the write way to convey those ideas. I frequently need to check the spelling or definition of words I come up with in my head that look odd when I write them. I have a lot of spelling police monitoring my blog content, so while I occasionally leave a word or too for them to catch, I work hard to make sure I right good. Sometimes I know a foreign word will work better than one in English, so I have to hunt for the proper spelling and definition to make sure it’s the right word for the right usage. I’m careful about using too much jargon, so I’m always on the look out for the definitions of acronyms and jargon phrases. [lien] [EN]

Weekly Digest: Lorelle in San Francisco Talking Blogging and WordPress, Offerring Blog Resources, Beating a Plagiarist, and More

This week finds me in San Francisco starting a spring and summer of public appearances and conferences. I’m getting really geared up for WordCamp Dallas on March 29-30, 2008, and Successful and Outstanding Bloggers Conference in Chicago in May. I hear both of these are filling up fast, so get your registration in immediately. I took time out to help Liz Strauss with a guest post while she’s on a business trip, and had some fun releasing my alter-evil twin, Lorraine, to talk about what you need to do to maximize your social networking when you get up close and personal at a blog conference. This week also finds WordPress.com having trouble releasing future posts. The developers are working so hard on the WordPress 2.5 release on Monday, so they haven’t gotten to this new bug on WordPress. [lien] [EN]

Supporting Your Local Food Bank

The summer months are a great time for thinking about and eating all those lovely fruits and vegetables that are ripe and in season. But what if you couldn't afford to buy cherries, peaches or watermelon, let alone milk or peanut butter? What if the rising costs of fuel and food made is so that you could no longer adequately feed your family? This scenario is increasingly becoming a reality for many people in the Bay Area (as well as nationwide), which is why our community food banks are now, more than ever, so important. I spoke with Suzan Bateson, the Executive Director of the Alameda County Community Food Bank, so I could learn more about food banks and hunger in the Bay Area. I did not want to make the same mistake twice.  We looked in depth at all the viable CRM apps currently available.  At one point I realized that we should have just bitten the bullet and stayed with NetSuite.  The $200K we lost with Oasis CRM would have covered us for five years with NetSuite.  I am fond of saying the two biggest mistakes I have made in business were going with NetSuite and leaving NetSuite.  Kind of like buying a boat I guess. And each Zoho service has a separate team working on it. Naturally, each team’s priorities vary and we will see how this relates to the subject of this blog. Recently, a user asked us the browsers supported by Zoho. The simple answer is Firefox (2.0 onwards) and Internet Explorer (6.0 onwards). But to know what browsers each Zoho service supported, we made a simple form application in Zoho Creator like below and sent it to all the teams, asking them to fill the required info. [lien] [EN]
