Here is the rest of my interview/conversation with Matthew Berry, fantasy expert at ESPN.com. Remember I have "fictionalized" the conversation into a standard Q&A format. Mr. Berry and I spoke for an hour, and I took notes. Without an recording, I can not provide his answers verbatim. However, nothing ascribed to Mr. Berry was not expressed by him. Part II: FT: Who do you have on your Closer Death Watch? MB: Eric Gagne of Milwaukee. He blew another save [on Tuesday], and manager Ned Yost gave him the dr... lire la suite

Last Thursday, Matthew Bery made an admission on ESPN's Fantasy Focus podcast that you don't hear very often in the world of fantasy punditry. He stated flat out that most fantasy players would beat him if he joined their league. This may seem contradictory. How could a Regular Joe beat the head of fantasy sports for the hegemonic ESPN?
As part of an agreement between SBNation and AOL, each SBNation football blog is hosting their own AOL Fanhouse Fantasy Football League. Originally Fake Teams had been left out of this deal, but after a discussion with the SBNation Leadership involving torches and a pitchfork, they agreed to incorporate our Fake Teams League into the promotion.
The Fake Teams AOL Fanhouse League drafted on Saturday and it was as crazy as you’d expect a 16 team IDP draft to be. I’ll review the first three picks for some selected teams. Remember, in a 16 team draft the first 48 players only make up three rounds. In a 12 team league you’d get these players in four rounds, in a ten team league they would make up almost five full rounds.

Fake Teams Interveiws Matthew Berry, ESPN Fantasy Expert
With Yahoo! opening its 2008 fantasy baseball this week, many fantasy baseball players will be looking for the best fantasy baseball names they can find. What better time to kick-off the third annual Fake Teams' Best Fantasy Baseball Names Contest. For those working in government and corporate bureaucracies, the acronnym is FTBFBNC.
Right now there's only one site I check daily for NFL Draft News, and that's Mocking The Draft, our SBNation sister blog covering everything you need to know about the NFL Draft. It's also hosting the SBNation NFL Mock Draft, which is now finishing up the 2nd round. It's a great blog and I highly recommend it.
You may have noticed a new advertisement on the site -- Register to win a chance to play fantasy football with SBNation bloggers. Sounds pretty cool, right? It would sound very cool except for the part where THEY LEFT US OUT! The marketing agreement with AOL only covered the 32 SBNation NFL blogs.
Detroit Tigers' ace Justin Verlander took the hill against the most fearsome offense in the American League, the Boston Red Sox, and came out of it with no questions answered. Six innings with five earned runs and ten runners allowed did nothing to quell the queasy feeling his fantasy owners have lived with all season.
I just finished an appearance on Melnick and Greco Fantasy Sports radio show broadcasting live from Mickey Mantle's Restaurant in NYC. Thank you guys and keep up the great work. On to the "Spring Training Boxscores: Fantasy Notes" for March 21, 2008. Unrivaled starting SS for the Baltimore Orioles, Luis Hernandez, stole his second base of the Spring.
This Thursday last, I had the opportunity for about twenty minutes to discuss Rays-centric Fantasy Baseball with ESPN expert Matthew Berry. Now, I know there was some discontent a couple of nights ago about his projection for Rays 3B Evan Longoria, but it is worth noting that I didn't really ask him about that since the interview took place before his call-up.
For those of you inroto/fantasy leagues where you get to draft and keep minor leaguers, Jason Grey's chats over at ESPN. com are a must read. He is a graduate of the MLB scouting program, as well as both a Tout Wars and LABR champion. In addition to answering general fantasy baseball questions, he answers alot of questions on minor leaguers with a fantasy spin.
Wow, this new Fake Teams is something else, huh? I'm still getting used to it myself. I think this is going to be great) You have to hand it to the Raiders, they do things their own way. Despite having not one, not two, but three former 1000 yard rushers on their roster, the Raiders decided that what they really needed was to draft a running back.

The Texans are getting killed by their inability to run the ball. Their leading rusher this week was Eagles' castoff Ryan Moats (7 rushes, 34 yards). Seriously, they couldn't come up with anybody else than that? Saints' WR Lance Moore has a TD in two consecutive games. Next opponent.
Mock Draft Central has run five expert mock drafts for the 2008 fantasy football season. Fake Teams particpated in the final one on Monday night (August 18th). The first was held on April 28th. What I wanted to do was compare the first and last expert draft and determine which way the most intense fantasy football winds were blowing when it comes to fantasy football draft thinking.

From time to time, I like to look at who the best pitchers and hitters are since the All-Star break, or the 2nd half of the season. Looking at the best NL pitchers from the 2nd half, based on the number of quality starts, yielded the names most people would expect like Sabathia, Santana and Webb, and a couple surprises like Pittsburgh's Paul Maholm and Colorado's Jorge de Larosa.
