Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit Demo Online [Demo]

Looking to get your hand on the first Dragon Balls on the PS3 and Xbox 360? Atari has a demo up on Xbox Live right now for Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit, the series' first foray onto the current crop of cutting-edge consoles. The demo weighs in at under 500 megs and features two battles from the game's story mode, Goku versus long-haired guy and other long-haired guy versus those little green things. Yep, I am definitely up on my DBZ terminology. The demo is currently available on Xbox Live and should be up on PSN later today, Sony willing. While you wait, a metric ass-ton of screenshots. galleryPost('dbz515', 3, ''); [lien] [EN]

Hands On: Dragon Ball Origins DS [Impressions]

I won't lie – I was something of an otaku when I was young. (Okay, I still am; I founded the Mills College anime club, for crying out loud). I watched Gundam Wing, Sailor Moon and even Robotech, the mutant hybrid that should not have been but was somehow totally awesome. And, of course, I was into all things Dragon Ball – all the way through GT. Dragon Ball Origins takes me back to the happy place that was after school and on Saturday mornings – somewhere between badly dubbed anime and expensive comics with thinly veiled adult humor. It's an action-adventure in the same vein as Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass – an RPG that's trimmed down for simple DS controls. In fact, the touch screen is the only control you use in Origins, with attacks being triggered by tapping and/or dragging the stylus across the lower screen. [lien] [EN]

Hands On: Dragon Ball Z: Infinite World – Gah! Too Many Colons! [Impressions]

Kids today don't know their anime – it's all Naruto this and One Piece that. And don't even get me started on Death Note. Remember when Dragon Ball Z was the only anime we got on Cartoon Network? And it had that really lousy dub with the “It's over 9000” line that will live in meme infamy? There was also a time when Dragon Ball Z: Budokai was the only anime fighting game we had in North America. You remember it – that chunky PS2 game with the taunt button and the airborne battles. It got mixed reviews, but sold well enough to justify several sequels, including the reincarnated Burst Limit on next-gen consoles. And now, because developer Dimps has moved onto bigger and better things Sonic Unleashed Wii level designing, they've decided to come back with a last hurrah – Dragon Ball Z. [lien] [EN]

Virtually Overlooked: Dragon Power

Filed under: Virtually OverlookedThere is no way Dragon Power could have been good. It's a collection of awful components that amounts to more awfulness than the (negative) sum of its repulsive parts. Bandai (strike one, amirite) created a Dragon Ball game in 1986 (i.e. before third parties were really making decent games), and then, for whatever reason, decided to bring it to the American market. The problem, of course, was that in the mid-'80s, nobody in the U.S. had any idea what the hell Dragon Ball was. We had yet to even enter the "$20 for two episodes on a VHS tape" phase of anime fandom, much less the "Dragon Ball on cable" phase. So Bandai did what must have seemed like the logical thing: they didn't release the game hacked out all the recognizable Dragon Ball parts. [lien] [EN]
