In her latest campaign move, Hillary Rodham Clinton takes on a more powerful opponent than her Democratic rivals John Edwards and Barack Obama: President Bush. Her new TV ad asks, “What if we had a different president this year?” As the announcer criticizes the president for his inaction, we see quick shots of sad-looking houses and Mrs. Clinton offering hearty shoulder pats to regular folks, presumably who’ve hit some hard times recently. “When we choose a president next year, let’s choose one that would have started fixing our economy this year,” the speaker concludes in the ad, which began showing in Iowa today. Mrs. Clinton also attacked President Bush on live television today — and again touted her familiarity with Pakistani politics — in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer about the aftermath of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination. She said: When I came back from my last meeting with President Musharraf in January of this year, I called the White House, I asked that they appoint an American envoy, a presidential envoy. I suggested that a retired military leader who could relate to President Musharraf on a one-to-one basis and could shuttle back and forth between President Musharraf and President Karzai because there were a lot of tensions. And also perhaps serve as a kind of support to President Musharraf, military man to military man, about what it takes to really move toward democracy that President Musharraf in every conversation I’ve ever had with him has given lip-service to. But I don’t think the Bush Administration has frankly asked enough of President Musharraf, has provided the right kind of assistance, has given the support needed. We have this difficult problem in the military. We have a lot of the senior leadership that we have relationships with, we don’t have those relationships for a lot of reasons with the junior leadership. I just think we have given a blank check under President Bush to President Musharraf and the results are frankly not in the interests of the United States, they are not in the interest of Pakistan and they are certainly not in the interest of the region. We should begin to try to have an ongoing process that includes India and Afghanistan. A lot of what you see happening in Pakistan is driven by the very strong concern coming out of the Pakistani government toward Afghanistan, toward India.
President Nicolas Sarkozy of France was plenty busy today fielding questions from reporters about his planned marriage to Carla Bruni. But even as Mr. Sarkozy was reluctantly opening up about his budding engagement to a glamorous singer and former model, another potentially uncomfortable aspect of his private life was taking the French and British press by storm. According to a number of media reports, Mr. Sarkozy’s 23-year-old son Pierre has been quietly producing and writing music for several rappers who strongly oppose the president and have openly declared their hatred of him. One of those artists, a minor rapper using the stage name Poison, took part in an anti-Sarkozy video last year with other rappers, in which he boasted: “Anti-Sarko, anti-right, Nicolas don’t you hear. We’re anti-you.”

The other problem could well be racial. His coalition initially was based on the notion that he would capture 60 percent of the black vote in a tough competition against the wife of our first honorific black president, and go on from there to cobble together a coalition with other minorities and elite whites. But his success seems to have been achieved with a slightly different calculus — 80-90 percent of the African-American vote, elite yuppie whites, and students and Moveon.org progressives. There's more about the problems in the world and some of the people who complain most loudly about the United States. And why they do so. They'd love to have a weak US President over for lunch - as the main course, so to speak.
Then, in late December of 2007, the tumblers all clicked into place and Daley made his nearly unprecedented endorsement of Obama for president. About the same time, it was announced that his brother Bill would be going to work for the Obama campaign. “I don’t think there’s a city in America that has blossomed as much over the last couple of decades than Chicago — and a lot of that has to do with our mayor. He has a national reputation that’s well-deserved . . . as somebody’s who’s innovative, as somebody who’s tough, as somebody who’s willing to make the hard the decisions, as somebody who is constantly thinking about how to make the city better.” (and someone who can help get me elected president despite him being a crook.) 2. He cultivated a relationship with the ancient President of the Illinois State Senate Emil Jones who told a colleague in 2002 after the Democrats swept into office “I’m gonna make me a senator.” Jones then proceeded to give Obama credit on the passage of 26 key legislative measures - almost all of which had been pushed by other state senators for years - thus giving Obama a record of sorts to go with all that charisma. Obama calls Jones his “political godfather.”
After Al Gore lost the 2000 election because he was boring, he gained 400 pounds and grew a beard. Then America and all the world loved him! He made a movie about how the Earth is melting, and then he won a Swedish Prize, and soon a back-room deal at the Democratic National Convention will make him our president again. That is, unless President Barack Obama decides to give him some sort of shadow government post as the Climate Change Czar. Rumors are already afoot! A woman in a town-hall forum yesterday asked Barack Obama if he'd consider giving Al Gore a high-level post in his administration, and Obama said "Of course! I would pretty much make him president, if that would persuade you to vote for me!" No actually he said "I will make a commitment that Al Gore will be at the table and play a central part in us figuring out how we solve this problem [of climate change]. He's somebody I talk to on a regular basis. I'm already consulting with him in terms of these issues but climate change is real."
