Actor/musician Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars sent cupcakes from one of our favorite (and Julia Allison's) bakeries, Sugar Sweet Sunshine, to MTV, where "they were summarily devoured by hungry staffers." You can get your FREE Sugar Sweet Sunshine cupcakes tomorrow night at our blogiversary party! Earlier this week, MTV News published an “in the studio” piece with 30 Seconds to Mars, in which they played us some new songs, gave us a tour of the facilities and talked in great detail about the ongoing $30 million breach-of-contract lawsuit filed by their former label, Virgin/EMI. This was the first time they’d done this, and needless to say, 30STM frontman/dreamboat Jared Leto was pleased with the results. How do we know this? Well, because he said so, in the handwritten note he sent along with a dozen cupcakes from NYC’s Sugar Sweet Sunshine bakery (there were even a few red-velvet ones in there, which only proves that he’s got good taste). I’ve included a photo of said note — made out to myself and MTV News metal scribe Chris Harris — with this blog post, not just so you can scope Leto’s penmanship (which is pretty great) and marvel at the fact that he spelled “grateful” correctly, but also to make you very jealous.
Sugar Sweet Sunshine cupcake photo by Flickr user lunchboxandgirl Last week on The Martha Stewart Show, (click here to watch it), we told you that two of our favorite local (NYC) bakeries are Sugar Sweet Sunshine on the Lower East Side and Brooklyn-based roving bakery Kumquat Cupcakery. I just wanted to revisit these favorites and share some more info; we encourage you to check them out. Sunshine cupcakes from Sugar Sweet Sunshine; photo by Cakespy on Flickr Sugar Sweet Sunshine is one of the reasons I started this blog. I loved their cupcakes, and the homey feel of their bakery. I still think it's such a welcoming outpost on the Lower East Side, and everything a bakery should be: delicious, fun, involved with the community. Almost every time I go there, I run into someone I know. I see lots of families, and people on dates there. They make it a place to hang out and put out consistently delicious cupcakes. Click here to read my 2005 Gothamist interview with them. Here are the flavors Sugar Sweet Sunshine offers: Sunshine: Yellow cake with vanilla buttercream Kumquat Cupcakery specializes in mini cupcakes, and each week brings new flavors to two Brooklyn flea markets (Artists and Fleas in Williamsburg, and the Brooklyn Brownstoner Flea Market in Fort Greene), as well as Newsbar in Manhattan. Click here to read our interview with Keavy of Kumquat Cupcakery. You can see their site for a detailed description of all their flavors, I'll just post my absolute favorite here, the peanut butter chocolate ones:
Britney Spears is supposed to be making a cameo in the new Pussycat Dolls video being filmed today. While we’d like to see her do something that requires she wears something more than a bustier we are happy that’s she got a job. “She is doing a cameo in their new video shoot today,” the source said. Spears was spotted in Burbank earlier today, where the Pussycat Dolls are shooting a music video for “When I Grow Up,” the first single from their second, as yet untitled album. The Pussycat Dolls' new record was executive produced by Timbaland and features appearances from Gnarls Barkley singer Cee-Lo Green and Sean Garrity.
Dolly Parton - I will always love youvegeta573 mn - 14 nov. 2006Clip from the movie
Dolly Parton was featured on American Idol last night. I thought she looked good... for Dolly Parton. I think Dolly is somewhat like Pam Anderson, in that they look somewhat artificial, but somehow it works for them since they are larger than life stars. She has nary a wrinkle on her face, but somehow looks much better than Joan Rivers, who appears to have had a similar amount of work done. This may be because her plastic surgeons have focused on addition of volume to her face in addition to tightening of the skin. I thought she looked radiant. She's such a musical legend, a a sweet, cute woman. I wouldn't want my mom to look like her, but it sure works for Dolly! For my brief comments on Dolly Parton's plastic surgery, click here and here and here.
The 27-year-old actress/singer is soon meeting with the Queen of Country Dolly Parton to discuss working on a duet together for Jessica’s new country album, reports FoxNews.com.
Dolly Parton has recently announced a postponement of her tour due to a back injury, possibly stemming from her huge breasts. She has recently nicknamed them "Shock and Awe." According to the Huffington Post, she stated: "I know I have been breaking my neck and bending over backwards trying to get my new Backwoods Barbie CD and world tour together, but I didn't mean to hurt myself doing it! But hey, you try wagging these puppies around a while and see if you don't have back problems. Seriously though, the doctors said I will be good as new in a few weeks & I can't wait to get back out there!"
Blogger Spoiled Spongecake went to New York's sugar Sweet sunshine and is a changed woman: sugar Sweet sunshine. Take me back to heaven. I still weep because I was so full and couldn't eat more than one {barely one}. I wanted to try every flavor and I will. I will.
TMZ.com celebrated Dolly Parton's 62nd birthday yesterday with a set of before-and-after photos. She hasn't had anything done, don't you think? (well, maybe a facelift, upper and lower blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, browlift, fat grafting, Botox, breast implants, Restylane, and chemical peels...but who's counting?)
