Speaking at Interplay Conference about games and social networks on May 22nd

Reader of this blog will know that I have a high degree of interest in Social Games. There are a couple of social gaming conferences coming up in the next couple of months.

The first is Interplay which is being held on May 22nd at the Kabuki Hotel in San Francisco. It specifically is focused on games being played on social networks. Some of the topics that the conference plans to address include:

How will the companies in this space turn their momentum into sustainable business models?
How will the social network platforms react if and when they do?

  • Sony Says "Home Is Not A Social Network" [Playstation 3]

    Speaking at the Develop Conference, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe reps Darren Cairns and Liam Wickham set the record straight on what Home is, exactly. Perhaps distancing it from services like Second Life, the pair proclaimed Home is "focused on games" referring to it as "a visual representation of the PlayStation community." Yes, sitting by the virtual fire in your virtual log cabin pretty much sums up the PlayStation community in our book.

    Inside Facebook has a terrific interview with $uperRewards, one of the two major CPA ad networks for social networks (and increasingly outside of social networks as well).     Eric Savitz (Barron's) submits: Speaking on the company’s post-earnings conference call, Google (GOOG) CFO George Reyes said the company has found that “social networking inventory is not monetizing as well as expected,” leading to higher than expected traffic acquisition costs.
