The hacker, known as EBK, called Comcast to let them know they'd been hacked. The manager scoffed and hung up: "If he wasn't such a prick, he could have avoided all of that," says EBK. 'Anonymous' Kid Faces Ten Years for Scientology Hack [4chan]

Who was the dark mastermind behind last January's Denial of Service attack that shut down Scientology.org for a little while? A teenager, obvs. 18-year-old Dmitriy Guzner, a self-proclaimed member of the 4Chan-related anti-Scientology group Anonymous has been busted by the Feds for his part in the shenanigans. Who Will Get Hacked First: Vista, OSX or Linux? Place Your Bets Here [Hacker Superbowl]

Organizers behind the CanSecWest security conference in Vancouver are putting together a "hacker superbowl" of sorts, pitting attendees' skills against Vista, Mac OS X and Linux. Dubbed PWN 2 OWN (ewwww), the objective is to develop a brand-new "zero day" attack to take control of one of the three operating systems loaded onto laptops. There's a grand prize of $20,000, and the hacked laptop will go to the first contestant to pull it off. So, the question is—which OS do you think will go down first? Sprint Twiddles Thumbs While 12-Year Customers Get Scammed For $2,500 [Identity Theft]

Someone hacked this couple's Sprint account, and bought four new phones on it, leaving these 12-year customers to pay over $2,500. Every time they called Sprint, the fraud department said not to worry and that the charges would be off the bill next month, but the disconnect notices kept arriving until Sprint shut off their phone. Only after a local consumer reporter got involved was the problem solved. When asked why it took so long, Sprint said, "it takes a while to complete a thorough investigation." If you're a legacy Nextel customer now with Sprint, you may want to ask about getting a PIN set up on your account. The account seemed to have been targeted (the fraud department said probably by someone inside Sprint) because it was an old Nextel account that didn't have a PIN. Sprint charges customer $2. How Two Teenage High School Dropouts Hacked Comcast [Comcast]

A couple days ago, a pair of teenagers brought down Comcast's homepage and mail service. They haven't been arrested (yet), so they gave the full story to Wired. Like most nuclear-level hacks, they didn't intend to hijack the website and mail hosting of the biggest cable company in the country. They say they even tried to warn Comcast. But, "once we were in," said EBK, the younger of the two, "it was, like, fuck it." Here's how it went down, in a nutshell. On Tuesday, Defiant and EBK (19 and 18 years old, respectively) say they exploited a flaw to hack into Network Solutions, a domain registrar, to take control of Comcast's domain management console and 200 of its domain names. (Network Solutions denies the flaw.) To start, they relocated Comcast.net's technical contact to the Dildo Room at 69 Dick Tard Lane. [lien] [EN]

WordPress Blogs and More Hacked by Google Redirects

Hackers are just determined. There are no new security flaws reported recently in WordPress, but that hasn’t stopped imaginative and determined hackers. The recent security issues concern hackers who work with Google and other search engine results and redirects traffic from your blog or website. The searchers clicks on the link and is redirected to the hacker’s site with the same search string used to search in the search engine. Most bloggers notice a problem when their site traffic drops inexplicably and/or their ad income drops. This is not a WordPress-specific issue. Many non-WordPress blogs have been hit by this redirect technique over the years. WordPress blogs seem to be a new target, which is probably because there are so many and such a strong and vocal community to speak out against such abuse. [lien] [EN]

Arianna Huffington's 15-Year Feud With Tim Russert [Awkward]

So. As we noted this morning, blog mistress Arianna Huffington didn't weigh in on the unexpected death of departed Meet the Press host Tim Russert until well after everyone else, and once she did, she didn't have much to say. Because of the old axiom about how much one should say when one doesn't have anything nice to say. (HuffPo's regular feature "Russert Watch" has gone blank—technical glitch or archive-scrubbing?) As anyone who's read Arianna's media writing over the last couple years knows, she never liked Tim. And we only just recently wandered into the fray, when we learned that Russert's unappreciated lapdog Chris Matthews hated Huffington for her years spent bashing his idol. And why did she hate Tim?
