Inside The Lab podcast on education…

The latest Inside Linden Lab podcast is out from Linden Lab (although this one is called Inside The Lab instead of the usual name — perhaps an oversight).

A Letter to Second Life Residents

M Linden here. Many thanks to everyone who responded constructively with their concerns and suggestions about our Openspaces announcement. We’ve listened carefully and your feedback has led to some amendments to our original plan. Before I jump to the policy amendments, I'd like to provide some insight into our decision and then recap what we've heard from you. When the Openspaces product was originally launched, Linden Lab offered Island owners the opportunity to add Openspaces to their land for light use only –- such as ocean or park land. But we didn't build in and enforce specific, quantifiable performance limits on the Openspaces. Why? For two simple reasons: 1. As you know all too well, many things affect performance of a Sim in complex inter-related ways (i.e., scripts, prims. [lien] [EN]

Stories from Second Life: Studio Wikitecture

Hello, this is Katt Linden. I’m here to welcome you to a Linden Lab podcast series, “Stories from Second Life.”  These are stories about individuals working in Second Life and the projects they are working on. Today we’re talking with Jon Brouchoud (known inworld as Keystone Bouchard) of Studio Wikitecture, to learn about his Second Life story and his work on what some call “Radical Collaboration.” In fact, Joshua-Michele Ross of the O’Reilly Radar said, about this project: “Wikitecture is first sophisticated tool I have seen in 3D where programmed logic provides a clear structure to facilitate collaboration.” Brouchoud’s Second Life story is an inspiring one. Working inside the collaborative, three dimensional world that is Second Life. [lien] [EN]

Jon Stewart mocks Congress for discussing Second Life [Politics]

Pictured is a screen capture of the avatars assembled in Second Life for yesterday's last week's congressional hearing about virtual worlds. Why is congress giving Linden Lab the time of day? Terrorists, silly! According to Jane Harman, D-California, "Islamic militants are suspected of using Second Life, the Internet virtual world, to hunt for recruits and mimic real life terrorism." That's quite the bait to dangle in front of congress for free publicity, Linden Lab PR team! Full clip from the Daily Show after the jump. [lien] [EN]

Rolling Stone Magazine Gives A Pick Inside Amy Winehouse’s Home Life

I didn’t intend to read this entire article about Amy Winehouse in Rolling Stone magazine, but once I started I couldn’t stop. RS writer Claire Hoffman spent some quality time with the singer in her Camden Crack Den, and her brilliantly descriptive writing makes you feel like you are right there. In fact, you may feel like need a shower after reading. All around her, Winehouse's home is in disastrous disarray: Discarded bags of potato chips, crumpled nuggets of tinfoil, beer bottles, lingerie boxes and scattered old credit cards tell of a long night that hasn't ended in weeks, maybe months, music journalist Claire Hoffman writes in her piece on the cracked out singer. This rare, inside glimpse into the real life of the love-sick/drug-sick Amy makes me think she’ll be dead within a year. [lien] [EN]

BizzyBlog Infiltrates Pajamas Media’s PJM Political Podcast, Discussing the POR Economy

Yours truly was interviewed earlier this week by Ed Driscoll of EdDriscoll.com and Pajamas Media for its latest PJM Political podcast. The topic was the POR (Pelosi-Obama-Reid) Economy. That interview is the final segment of the PJM podcast that can be found here. The segment isn’t mentioned in the intro by Steve Green of VodkaPundit, but it’s there at about the 46-minute mark. The program was broadcast yesterday on XM Satellite Radio. I’ll have to get news about future interviews up a bit more timely. [lien] [EN]

Welcome to the new Labs website!

A while back, the Labs team decided that it was time to update the look and feel of our web presence. We took advantage of that work to also do a full upgrade to the back-end of the site. Today we’re proud and excited to launch the end result of that project. The team involved with design, development, and testing work has been stellar, and includes - Sean Martell, Neil Lee, Ryan Doherty, Stephen Donner, Krupa Raj, and Raymond Etornam. This site is wholly their creation and they’ve all been a fantastic (and fun) to work with. The site itself is constructed on a straightforward WordPress Multi-User installation, with two custom themes designed by Sean and developed by Neil and Ryan. All content and customization for each project site can be edited via the WordPress UI, making updating and maintaining the site significantly easier. [lien] [EN]

Many many of us have found this metric to be rather misleading and it would be better if LL would stop promoting this “feature” as it is clearly intended to cause social strife and is nothing more than an arrogant attempt by pastrami linden to blame the residents of SL for the awful performance windlight smashed SL with.
