Something about Mike Arrington’s post yesterday has been bugging me. This morning it hit: Mike has the wrong goal. What is his goal? To beat CNET. But does a great business or movement EVER get built on top of a goal like that? No. Wozniak and Jobs didn’t start Apple to beat IBM.
After installing Leopard on three machines and using it for the past four days I figure I might as well write down my first impressions. Here are the high and low points for me: The installer is a bit buggy in that it doesn’t seem to recognize hard drives with any sorts of special partitions made for previous versions of Boot Camp (made by Apple themselves!
What are the best and worst band names of all time? In the "best" category are My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, The Flaming Lips, Joy Division, and Crowded House. And I have to give special mention to The Killers, who realized that by the year 2000, there had never been a friggin' band named The Killers before.
Yesterday was some day, huh? Even though rumors have been rampant for over a week now, it doesn't make it any easier to hear. Toshiba's going to discontinue the HD DVD business. It seems that's all anyone's been talking about. Engadget ran a snarky article on what you can do with your HD DVD player.

We try really hard to make YouTube as open as possible. Anyone can upload and view videos, which can be embedded anywhere and viewed on all kinds of different devices. And, of course, anyone can participate in our community by commenting on videos, rating them, and sharing them with friends.
Filed under: Mods, Peripherals, Video var digg_url = 'http: digg. com/mods/Wiimote_extreme_LED_mod_is_dazzling'; When we hear the word "extreme" in the title of anything, we usually assume we'll hate it. Note: This rule of thumb is especially important when the "ex" syllable is replaced by the letter "x".
It’s weird to read the New York Times to find this article on Ansel Adams on the front page. What did we just do? We spent two days in Yosemite with Michael Adams, Ansel’s son, who spent the better part of two days showing us around. I shot a TON of Qik/cell phone video with Michael.
Jose Canseco’s Typhoid Mary impression did amazing damage to baseball’s reputation, but I don’t at all doubt there would have been another. What I particularly blame him for, tonight, is the reluctance to let position players pitch. It used to happen all the time — actually, if you watch minor league box scores, it happens more often than you might guess — and Canseco blowing out his arm was so big that it made everyone more reluctant to let their position guys pitch for fear of the same criticism Kevin Kennedy endured.
Filed under: News There are two things that can be concluded from the animated Mirror's Edge trailer above. One, Mirror's Edge sounds like a freaking awesome game. Two, somehow, before everything is said and done, there will be a product tie-in with Esurance. You know, the (arguably annoying) commercials with that pink haired chick what sells the auto insurance?
Filed under: Podcasts var digg_url = 'http: digg. com/podcasts/Xbox_360_Fanboy_2'; Hey everyone, let's make this super clear, everyone on the X3F crew is dog tired. We made this episode running on nothing but pure nerve, and it shows. Today we endeavor to talk about Gears of War 2 multiplayer details, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie, and many other topics.
Terminator Salvation Teaser Trailer Thursday, July 17th, 2008 I was a little sceptical when I heard that they were making a new Terminator film without Arnold Schwarzenegger, even if it was going to star (surprisingly) one of my favorite actors, Christian Bale, as the legendary John Conner.
With great pissing match comes great responsibility By Thoreau Last week I alluded to a power struggle over an interdepartmental research grant. All I did was offer some advice (OK, a lot of advice), and I have somehow been put in charge of this thing. I’m pretty sure that they’re punishing me for sticking my nose into the politics, because it’s due August 18, I have another grant due August 1, I have a conference August 6-10, and the person who was allegedly working on it before the power shift (and by “allegedly working on it” I mean “refusing to share info”) hadn’t started on a budget or gone through the fine print of budget guidelines.
