Expanding List of Ruby on Rails Sites, Editors, Tutorials, Cheat Sheets and More
Most of these Ruby on Rails related links are right out of my bookmarks. I checked for 404s and added more recent entries, but this list is far from complete. New blogs, sites, tutorials and tools are released on a daily basis. Just leave a comment or contact me if you want your link(s) or anything related added, or have spotted any broken links.

UltimateBet Poker Site Admits Players Cheated, But Won't Name Names [Online Poker]
Here's a mystery story to distract you from the U.S. Banking Apocalypse. UltimateBet.com, "one of the top 10 poker sites," has admitted that employees manipulated the software to cheat from at least January 2005 to January 2008, when some players started noticing an unusually high rate of wins for a certain user name. An Australian player mapped that user's wins against accounts that had played a similar number of hands, and realized that "NioNio's" wins were "less likely than 'winning a one-in-a-million lottery on four consecutive days.'" But NioNio is just one part of the mystery. As the players continued to dig, they concluded that NioNio was at the center of a web of accounts that were able to change user names with ease, making it harder for victims to detect the cheating. 'Politico' Will Expand, Save Political Journalism As We Know It [Media]
When, back in April, we wondered what exactly political newspaper/website Politico was up to (and do they make money?) we said this: "once the presidential thing is done, Politico will have to go back to what we thought it'd be in the first place—a wonkish, Roll Call-like little trade paper for Congress-watchers and DC insiders." Because pure politics does not make money, and Politico has a lot of big salaries to pay. But Politico didn't listen! Once the election is over, The Times reports (from their new media desk!), Politico will expand! And then the Washington Post will copy them! Politico (politico.com) is to announce on Monday that after Election Day, it will add reporters, editors, Web engineers and other employees; expand circulation of its newspaper edition in Washington. Use Caution in Dealing with Third Party L$ Sites
We are aware L$ are traded on a number of third party sites. While some of these sites may be reliable, others deal in fraudulent L$ — L$ that were created not with any resources, value, or labor, but rather bought with a phished account, stolen credit card or PayPal account. You therefore purchase these third party L$ at your own risk: if they are discovered to be fraudulent — in effect phony — we will recoup them from your account. We must do so, in order to avoid tacitly (and financially) encouraging a practice that harms Second Life sellers, phishing victims, and Linden Lab itself. Should you decide to purchase L$ from one of these sites, please consider the below list of tips: -Sites without an established record are more likely to be fraudulent than established sites. The Brew Site Best of 2007
Looking back over the number of posts I made over 2007, I thought it would be fun to write a Brew Site "Best Of" list based on my writings. It's that time of year, right? So without further ado, here's The Brew Site Best of 2007: all based on my personal opinions of beers I drank and breweries I visited (etc. etc.) for this past year. (All my categories are arbitrary, loosely based on the topics I wrote about.) Best Barrel-Aged Beer: The Angel's Share, Lost Abbey (review) Best Stout: Dragonstooth Stout, Elysian Brewing (review) Best PR Package: Pumpkin beers: All the various pumpkin beers I received on request from a number of breweries, for my Pumpkin Beer Week. Runners up: · Lost Abbey beers (link): One big box. 'Nuff said. · Flying Dog's packages: I'm on their list for new and limited releases. [lien] [EN]

Google Wants to Help Web Sites Make New Friends
If you run a Web site, you may have a lot of new friends. Last week, site owners learned they could add information about their users from MySpace and Facebook. On Monday, Google introduced its take on the same phenomenon, Google Friend Connect. Google puts two spins on this concept. First, its program is designed to allow very small Web sites to add some social networking features without sophisticated programming. All they have to do is copy a little code onto their Web pages. Second, Google lets site owners link to a range of other sites, including, for various functions, AOL, Yahoo and Facebook. “Google Friend Connect is like giving Webmasters a salt shaker full of ’social’ that they can sprinkle on their sites to add social capabilities,” David Glazer, a director of engineering at Google told a conference call of reporters Monday.
