Thoughts about the “Windows Embedded” renaming

I am actually in the plane, flying back from Barcelona where we had a great TechEd EMEA: lots of sessions and some embedded developers eager to get deeper content on Windows Embedded. I spent a lot of time talking with Windows Embedded partners and with developers about technical content and about any feedback they would have around our technologies/message/tools/... One feedback that came again and again is: “why did you rename the products? We are now even more confused than ever, and our customers...(read more) [lien] [EN]

Windows Embedded NavReady 2009

Windows Embedded NavReady 2009 You certainly have heard about the Windows Embedded family renaming. If not, take a look at this post. Part of the Windows Embedded Ready sub-family (specific verticals offerings), here is a new born: Windows Embedded NavReady 2009. By the "Nav" prefix, you certainly have guessed that this new product is not about being ready to run some well known anti-virus ;-)... but is more about portable navigation devices, aka PNDs or GPS. So imagine the scenario: you are driving and need to get info like the weather, traffic, or the best and newest points of interests near you like a restaurant or a gas station with best prices... The only thing you have is your PND and a cell phone, let's be more precise. [lien] [EN]

Did you check out the new Windows Embedded MSDN dev center?

Did you check out the new Windows Embedded MSDN dev center? - Finding resources on MSDN has always been a problem. Lots of very interesting content is sitting there but it is usually hard to find things, especially when you don’t really know what you are looking for. In order to address this problem, the Windows Embedded team has been revamping the Windows Embedded MSDN developer center. It is now clearer, more intuitive. Please send me your feedback on this! Windows Embedded CE 6 SDK not installing on Visual Studio 2008?

Windows Embedded CE 6 SDK not installing on Visual Studio 2008? I am actually working on a set of demos for TechEd next week (I know these demos should be finished now!, but I'm sure I will get everything up and running by the end of this week ;-)). I struggled a couple of hours on a problem: I generated a SDK for a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 image using the Platform Builder 6.0 Plug-in in Visual Studio 2005. I then tried to install that SDK in order to use it in Visual Studio 2008 to develop a Smart device application for my device (I know you can develop your application into Visual Studio 2005, but I am kind of a geek and I like to use the latest tools...). The problem was that the newly installed SDK didn't show up in Visual Studio 2008... After a long investigation. [lien] [EN]
