Larry Dignan (ZDNet) submits: In the newly launched battle between HP (HPQ) and IBM (IBM) for your services business–and all the consultants and profit margins that go with it–Big Blue is trying to position itself on higher ground. IBM’s argument is that it can solve business problems and transform your company. As for HP, IBM wants to paint its beefed up rival as just a technology services company running help desks, data centers and the like. Now that Obama has finally won I think it is time to reveal the secret sauce in his campaign - PHP & PEAR - according to this article a LAMP stack was used to create the Obama site where PEAR was extensively used, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, ohh and really proud This just goes to show the Obama campaign picks the right tools for the job, and further they pick tools that no corporation controls, which quite reflects what Obama is all about - at least the little I glanced over the whole presidential election thing.
According to a new Nikkei report, Pioneer is going to cease plasma production, as we suspected, but will not just become a passive buyer of Panasonic's plasma technology. Instead, it will combine.
Pioneer's Kuro plasma sets are the best TVs on the market, right now, bar none. So it was a little disconcerting to hear that they're officially quitting plasma panel production and outsourcing it.
Recent filings in the Apple-IBM-Papermaster case reveal that IBM is potentially raising a flag due to an upcoming technology that the company fears could be compromised by Mark Papermaster's employ at Apple. The technology, noted in the Times Online .
What a fun day. IBM invited me over to its research building, where we moved atoms around with a tunneling electron microscope (among other things). I shot some videos with my Qik cameras while Rocky was setting up his HD camcorders. The quality is low, but that’s because they didn’t have a 3G network up there so I needed to turn down my cell phone to a lower quality setting.
Everytime I watch one of my own videos I see something that I could improve. We spent half a day at Microsoft Research’s new building getting a video tour of the new building. Kevin Schofield, General Manager, gave us an awesome tour and introduced us to several of Microsoft’s smartest people.
Brian Solis just wrote a guest post for TechCrunch in which he gave away many of the secrets of the PR industry. Every entrepreneur and even every product manager inside a big company should read it and understand the tactics discussed there. Don’t miss the additional video by Seesmic’s CEO/founder, Loic Le Meur in that same post’s comments.
One more sign that we’ve entered the cloud computing era: the big corporate players are competing with each other to rev up academic research initiatives (partly with an eye toward wooing future computer scientists to work for them, of course). Yahoo, Hewlett-Packard and Intel announced a research venture on Tuesday that spans the United States, Germany and Singapore.

Who would have thought? This recipe includes a couple of firsts for me: Neither have I read the magazine in which I found this recipe in before - always ‘thought it was kinda bland - nor have I ever used instant powder for jello, ever - and I could have sworn that I never would! Preparing an eye catching jello dessert is dead easy, no rocket science, no secret sauce.
October 10, 2007 Deluxe Potatoes Jo Jo Potatoes] Perhaps you remember Braden and Laura from the post I wrote about their underground restaurant venture: Hidden Kitchen has been doing well since then, waiting list and all, and Maxence and I have had the finger-licking pleasure of going back to their apartment a few times, as friends, on their off nights.

An e-mail: Apropos of your post today at the Corner, the inhabitants of my office (a GOP campaign/research consulting shop in CA) tend to think that Fred would make a decent Attorney General of the United States, or as some candidate's national campaign chair emeritus in charge of fast-reaction smackdowns of lazy, biased, inaccurate national news media, among other chores.
Jason @ Hackzine writes - In 1985, Wim van Eck published a paper which described how the state of a CRT monitor could be reproduced remotely based on the device's electromagnetic radiation. Van Eck or TEMPEST devices, whatever you prefer to call them, aren't just the secret sauce in your favorite science fiction, though for some reason there hasn't been a lot of amateur or open source activity here.

Filed under: NewsIt's no secret that early Xbox 360 hardware breaks and breaks often. So much so that last Summer, Microsoft had to pony up a few billions to extend the 360's warranty just to make consumers happy. Now, with new failure estimates hitting the news-wire, we learn how bad it (potentially) was.
Today Pioneer is revealing its official 2008 Kuro TV lineup for the US. As we expected from European announcements, it includes second-generation Kuro plasmas—thinner, with five-times-deeper black levels than the first critically acclaimed Kuro plasma—and a Kuro-branded LCOS projector originally developed by JVC.
I got drunk last night and that’s why I am confused today, but not as confused as the kids who were out at the bar last night. Girls looked like boys and boys looked like girls and I guess it’s just a sign of the times. It’s like everybar is a gay bar and everyone’s sexuality is fuckin’ blurred to the point where everyone looks like Pete Wentz and Samantha Ronson.
