Sweet Jesus, I Hate Will Saletan

For the love of God, I wish someone would shut Will Saletan up. When last we heard from Will, he was trying his hand at racial science, accusing we liberals of hiding our heads in the sand about the obvious differences in intelligence between racial groups. Except, funny story, the central research he cited as proof was kinda, sorta created by a racist. And absent the racist evidence of racial differences, it turned out that there really isn't so much any evidence of racial differences in intelligence. Oops. One would think this experience would convince Saletan that maybe sometimes one shouldn't adopt a reflexive anti-liberal pose, and he has, mercifully, shut up about race. But nothing could keep him from coming back to his favorite hobby-horse: abortion, and why it's icky. Now Saletan is pro. [lien] [EN]

Fishbowl DC has some delightful highlights from a forthcoming New York Times Magazine piece on Chris Matthews. I think this is probably my very favorite line: At one point, Matthews suddenly became hypnotized by a TV over the bar set to a rebroadcast of "Hardball." "Hey, there I am -- it's me," he said, staring at himself on the screen. "It's me." And I found this interesting: Matthews's contract expires next year, and NBC officials clearly would like to renew it for considerably less than the $5 million a year he is making now. Whether it's a formal talking point or not, NBC officials seem bent on conveying the message that they could get the same ratings, or better ones, for considerably less money. Sweet Sweep! June 16, 2008 The Nationals are still better than the Mariners! Woo! Thanks to Kory Casto’s Father’s Day home run, first of his career, the Nationals sealed a three game sweep of the Mariners yesterday. I was held in suspense as I went into a concert at Wolf Trap after the 7th inning with the game still tied 2-2 after a few errors, so Tim Redding didn’t earn the win, sadly. Mr. Chatter and I watched the last two innings when we got home. With our daughter sleeping on our floor, we had a hard time staying quiet while we whooped and high fived after Casto’s homer. Sweet! Jesus Colome pitched two scoreless innings and earned the win, with Joel Hanrahan successfully closing out the game that was not a save situation for once. Paul Lo Duca is returning. [lien] [EN]
