Big Orange Round Table Week #8

The Big Orange Round Table.  I nearly forgot about it.   Here are my “queries”: 1.  In a perfect world, what time would your UCLA Kick-off start? In my ideal world there would be a daylight savings-style one hour time shift about twice a week. This week I'd love to get up each day around ten, but next week should be eleven or noon, and probably within about six months I think I could get back around full circle jerk to getting up at ten AM again. It sounds like madness even to me, but at least it's my own sort of madness. Go Vols I do plan on live blogging this ball game.  More to follow.  Big 10 Football is the worst.  GBO 2.  Sometimes doing the right thing is tough. Sometimes we have to choose between bad and worse.  I have known snipers that get bothered even though what they did was absolutely right. [lien] [EN]

JM Billiard Round Pool Table Has a Stripper Pole Attachment [Balls Deep]

Rectangular pool tables? Sounds great, gramps, but why don't you come join us ballers in the 21rst century and have a little fun? Today it's all about round tables with custom add-ons, like stripper poles, which is exactly what California-based JM Billiards is doing with their one-of-a-kind models. When the balls aren't sinking your way, toss 'em aside and take out the ones, because the night's going to get interesting. Just don't try to do both activities at the same time, because eight-inch heels and 8-balls just don't go well together. And yeah, I'm still talking about playing pool. Deviants. Big Orange Round Table #2

1. A position of strength for the Vols this fall should be wide receivers. Which 2 guys will emerge from the pack to start the opener against UCLA alongside Lucas Taylor? Why? Austin Rogers or AR21. AR21’s the sleeper. Here is a vignette to capture the essence of The Vanilla Fly: AR21’s the quiet manager in your office, the one that seems like he might be a good guy, but he’s a little too business-y from 9-6. Then there’s the one night where Happy Hour cocktails turns into an impromptu trip to the Shaved Beaver, and AR21’s the one chatting up the strippers, trying to negotiate some extras during the lap dance. The next thing you know, someone asks what happened to AR21? We haven’t seen him in a while. AR21’s in the Champagne Room, getting a blowjob and admiring giggles as the stripper’s tongue piercing clinks against his Prince Albert. [lien] [EN]

Rebel Monkey Nabs $1 Million in First Round

Rebel Monkey, a year-old startup that develops casual multi-player games, briefly emerged from stealth mode Wednesday to snatch $1 million in first-round financing from Redpoint Ventures. The company, co-founded by its chief executive, Margaret Wallace, who helped launch Skunk Studios in San Francisco, and Nick Fortugno, lead designer of the Diner Dash game, is in one of the hottest sectors of the video-game industry. A report by a Pacific Crest Securities analyst, Evan Wilson, forecast that casual gaming revenue would nearly double to $725 million in 2008 from $375 million in 2006. Scentsory Concept Phone; Sniffer Phone Makes the Rounds Again

Is it different? Yes. Is it interesting? Yes. Is it plausible or probable? No; well at least not for a long time. Designer Kimberly Hu has been working for quite a while on one of the most unique mobile concepts we’ve seen. The device made its first appearance back in mid-2006 and even went on to win a red dot award, but it looks like web interest has been stirred up again. Dubbed "Scentsory", the flexible ultra-thin handset concept is equipped with highly sophisticated sensors that are capable of translating odors into transmittable data. The device can then send that data to another person packing a Scentsory, and their unit will reproduce the scent. It might sound ridiculous but research has shown that the human capacity for scent memory is significantly greater than audio or visual memory. [lien] [EN]

Hookah Table Not What It Sounds LIke, Thank Gawd [Happy Hookah]

Not something that you frak your lady of the night on top of, nor anything to do with William Shatner, Adrian Zmed and Heather Locklear, the Hookah Table is a customized table that you can get high on, as well as under. Costing around $600 bucks, there's a bowl on top, which I guess you can put the salt in when your folks come round for dinner, and four hoses for you and your mates to suck on after your Mom has done the washing up and the coast is clear. You can choose from loads of different finishes (sadly, Happy is not one of them) but I'm sure if Ms Locklear makes it to yours you could ask her if she's up for it. NRL 2008 ~ Round 10

This is supposed to be a preview but the first games start in about 20 minutes and I still haven’t had dinner. SO I am cutting this real short. Eels vs Roosters - Roosters are missing some forwards due to State of Origin so I’m Tipping the Eels Titans vs Bulldogs - I’m going Titans at home and with Scott Prince playing to prove his snubbing from the State of Origin was a farce. Sharks vs Broncos - Broncos are missing plenty due to Origin as well but the Sharks are missing their two best in Gallen and Bird.  Broncos in a tight one. Dragons vs Storm - Storm are most heavily effected by Origin but Dragons are without their star centres.  Storm for mine. Sea Eagles vs Cowboys - Sea Eagles have one origin rep and the Cowboys are without too many (Origin and injury).  Sea Eagles to run riot. [lien] [EN]

Round Robin Data Storage in MySQL

If you want to store large amount of volatile data (e.g. log file entries) in a database with a constant storage memory footprint and no maintenance to purge the old entries, a round robin database is the best solution. But how to implement it in MySQL? Some of the heaviest tables in our database are tables [...] [lien] [EN]

AP Selectively Rounds in Coverage of Monthly Treasury Report

The Associated Press’s Jeannine Aversa “creatively” and selectively rounded figures presented in today’s Monthly Treasury Statement from Uncle Sam. That Treasury report, released this afternoon, covered monthly and year-to-date receipts and spending in the federal government. By doing what she did, Aversa made sure we know that year-to-date receipts are down, but at the same time made Congress’s overspending look less serious than it really is. Here’s the paragraph in question from her “Budget deficit up in first 9 months of budget year” report: Spending of $2.2 trillion so far this year is up from $2.1 trillion reported for the corresponding period last year. Meanwhile, revenues of $1.93 trillion are down from $1.945 trillion a year ago. Because Aversa rounded off the spending numbers to the nearest $. [lien] [EN]
