Microsoft Releases Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 to Manufacturing Hi All, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released to manufacturing today and will start being available to customers in March, starting with Microsoft Volume Licensing customers. Windows Server 2008 was also released to manufacturing today and will be available for purchase to new customers on March 1. Hi All, In late October Mike Nash announced the Beta  of Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 - beginning with a small group of Technology Adoption Program customers. This week we're opening up the beta to a broader audience. Starting today, MSDN and TechNet subscribers will have access to the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Beta to begin testing.   Beginning Thursday Dec. 4^th (US Pacific Time), we will be making the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Beta available to everyone through a Customer Preview Program (CPP). Hello, Few days ago I changed my professional notebook/laptop for a real “working” machine. Working on advanced MOSS 2007 projects, setting up directly MOSS on my host OS is nice, so did I. Windows Server 2008 Standard RC1 EN, bytes from MSDN, looks like the best candidate for this. Once setup (it’s Vista “like” setup screens), the OS runs smoothly, and working pleasure is here. But, Windows Server 2008 is hardened compared to Windows Server 2003 R2 on security. This Just In: MAPI and Windows Server 2008 Now Get Along

The MAPI/CDO download package now works on Windows Server 2008 and Vista. The main blocker to getting this to work was the fact that in Windows Server 2008 and Vista, mapi32.dll was marked as a system file. Any attempt to replace it would be blocked or undone. Exchange's MAPI has always replaced mapi32.dll with it's own version, so it couldn't work on those operating systems. The fix is modify Exchange's MAPI to take advantage of the MAPI Stub Library mechanism. We moved Exchange's MAPI binaries out of system32/syswow64 and placed them under C:\Program Files\ExchangeMAPI ("Program Files (x86)" on a 64 bit machine). We also renamed Exchange's mapi32.dll binary. It's now called ExMAPI32.dll. Some notes: · If you've installed an earlier version of this download on a machine and wish to upgrade. [lien] [EN]

With the upcoming launch of Windows Server 2008 you'll start to see more resources related to SharePoint deployments on Windows Server 2008. First to note is since RC0 of WS08, you need to have WSS service pack 1, and as applicable MOSS SP1. To run Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 for a fresh installation after installing Windows Server 2008, install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 with SP1. You'll find a couple of references on TechNet related to deployment on Windows Server 2008 updated since RC0. IIS7 - Interesting Fact - most wanted feature of Windows Server 2008

Mike Volodarsky, Program Manager of the IIS team has a nice link to share - a survey by InformationWeek - claiming IIS7 as the feature most of them are interested in Windows Server 2008.   This isn't surprising me because of the powerful features IIS7 offers to the administrators (Delegated configurations, configurable Over-riding configuration store, Request Filtering, Easy Remote Management, Shared Configuration, etc) and also being the best friend to the developers (Can extend the IIS manager, plug and play modules into the integrated pipeline, use all major ASP.NET functionalities in the pipeline enabling all the file types, can set the default document of the website themselves in web.config).
