Hello, Few days ago I changed my professional notebook/laptop for a real “working” machine. Working on advanced MOSS 2007 projects, setting up directly MOSS on my host OS is nice, so did I. Windows Server 2008 Standard RC1 EN, bytes from MSDN, looks like the best candidate for this. Once setup (it’s Vista “like” setup screens), the OS runs smoothly, and working pleasure is here. But, Windows Server 2008 is hardened compared to Windows Server 2003 R2 on security. I am getting lot of questions around what is the support available for MOSS with upcoming Windows Server 2008 release. Can we upgrade from win 2003 to win 2008, is 64 bit supported, if so how to install it, what version of .NET Frameworks is required, do we support .Net Framework 3.5? IIS7 - Interesting Fact - most wanted feature of Windows Server 2008

Mike Volodarsky, Program Manager of the IIS team has a nice link to share - a survey by InformationWeek - claiming IIS7 as the feature most of them are interested in Windows Server 2008.   This isn't surprising me because of the powerful features IIS7 offers to the administrators (Delegated configurations, configurable Over-riding configuration store, Request Filtering, Easy Remote Management, Shared Configuration, etc) and also being the best friend to the developers (Can extend the IIS manager, plug and play modules into the integrated pipeline, use all major ASP.NET functionalities in the pipeline enabling all the file types, can set the default document of the website themselves in web.config). I created a new VPC using Virtual PC 2007.  As Windows Server 2008 is not a choice for the creation Wizard, I picked Windows Server 2003 assuming that would give me the closest reasonable settings.  I set the RAM for the VPC to 1.5GB and I created an expanding disk with a maximum size of 64GB.  I would have liked to have done more, but I'm constrained by the physical disk space of my laptop -- 100GB internal primary disk (chock full of Vista and all of my apps) and 80GB secondary internal disk. I enabled hardware virtualization and mounted the Windows Server 2008 ISO (which I had downloaded from MSDN Subscriber Downloads) as the CD/DVD drive.  With nervous anticipation (well, not really). Installing MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008

If you try to install MOSS 2007 on Windows Server 2008, you are going to get an error that there is an incompatibility.  To install, you need SP1 for MOSS.  I usually download everything from MSDN Subscriber Downloads or install from MSDN DVDs.  Of course, there is not a version of MOSS 2007 with SP1 already slipstreamed on the subscriber downloads.  You could slipstream SP1 yourself, but it turns out there's an easier way.  First, install the trial version of MOSS 2007 with SP1 (32 bit or 64 bit).  After you install the trial version, upgrade from the trial version. · In Central Administration, on the top link bar, click Operations. · On the Operations page, in the Upgrade and Migration section, click Convert license type.
