If you missed our bake sale, you missed this insanely good s'mores cupcake
Today is the kickoff for Cupcakes for a Cause, a nationwide charity drive where you can do everything from send an e-cupcake (with every one sent, $1 is donated) to buy special cupcakes at bakeries across the country with money going toward CancerCare for Kids, which helps children whose parents have cancer with counseling, support groups, workshops, information, and more.
We'll have a full wrapup of our action-packed, cupcake-filled bake sale soon, but for now, I'll share that if you weren't one of the 4.

MORE Cupcakes coming to Chicago
And by that I mean, a bakery called MORE Cupcakes. Their website's not up yet but we'll keep you posted (thanks, Lauren, for the tip!) The press release also says that Magnolia Bakery in NYC sells 3,000 cupcakes per day and that Sprinkles in Beverly Hills sells over 1,000 per day. That's a lot of cupcakes! "We wanted to create a business that was upbeat and fun, and what could be more fun than cupcakes? Everyone loves cupcakes," says Rothman. "We all can recall childhood memories of eating delicious cupcakes. Who can't remember that exciting moment of anticipation when we pull back the paper and prepare to savor the first scrumptious bite?" The MORE team thinks of cupcakes as stylish comfort food. "Cupcakes are small enough to be an indulgence that everyone can enjoy. [lien] [EN]
More Cupcakes opening in Chicago in May
Photo via Time Out Chicago We told you about More Cupcakes coming to Chicago last month, and now Time Out Chicago's blog has the scoop: If cupcake boutiques weren’t so universally disappointing, I might be more excited about More. But who am I kidding— I am excited. Kind of. I’m excited because Gale Gand is a consulting chef, and the pastries I had at the last bakery she opened weren’t half bad. Also, More will be doing savory cupcakes: Parmesan Rosemary, Tomato Basil, Roquefort, etc. I suspect there will be no middle ground with these—they’ll be amazing or disgusting. I’m hoping for the former. Other flavors to look forward to: Sticky Toffee, Lavender Honey, Boston Cream, Passion Fruit Poppy Seed, which all sound delicious (in theory). [lien] [EN]
More Cupcakes' sweet and savory holiday cupcakes
And to spread the Chicago cupcake love, here's what More Cupcakes is offering. MORE offers a rotating selection of daily flavors, including new flavors like Sweet Potato, Thanksgiving, Banana Spiced Rum and Cranberry. Cupcakes range from $3.50-$4.25/each, $39.50-$49.50/dozen. Looking for party favors or that perfect hostess gift? MORE offers a variety of cupcake flights with six of its MOREsels, mini cupcakes, including a special Holiday Flight with flavors like Gingerbread, Chocolate Mint, Peppermint White Chocolate and their deliciously infamous Red Velvet. MORE also has a new Wine and Cheese Flight with flavors like Camembert Sauternes. [lien] [EN]
More cupcakes from Gigi's Cupcakes
From Flickr user athena1970 comes more cupcakes from Gigi's Cupcakes in Nashville, Tennessee. I love how colorful these are - I'm a big fan of bakeries going that extra mile to put their personal stamp on their cupcakes. Clockwise: Texas Milk Chocolate, Kiddie Kake, Gingerbread, and Peanut Butter Cup. And a gingerbread cupcake closeup: [lien] [EN]

Rave for More Cupcakes' bacon cupcake
Melissa of the blog Mundane Ethnography raves about Chicago's More Cupcakes, especially their bacon cupcake: The cupcake is a brown sugar cake with bacon bits mixed into the batter. It's topped with maple butter-cream frosting and garnished with a piece of candied bacon. The maple and bacon flavors mix marvelously--think pancakes with maple syrup and bacon for breakfast. It sounds weird, I know, but trust me...it works. [lien] [EN]
Two tastes of Chicago's More Cupcakes
Flickr user palit9 was kind enough to let us repost some of her photos (click through for the full set) from Chicago's More Cupcakes. I really like the packaging; it gets their message across loud and clear. I'm so curious about their savory cupcakes, like the BLT. Must. Plan. Chicago. Trip. ASAP. BLT cupcake with ranch frosting Bacon cupcakes The blog We Are Not Martha recently did a second Chicago Cupcake Crawl. Do check out their extensive cupcake tasting. Here's what they had to say about the bacon and BLT cupcakes (click above for their more positive take on More's sweet cupcakes): We started (nervously) with the maple bacon. And, it was...interesting. Sues honestly thinks the whole thing would have been pretty fabulous if it wasn't called a cupcake. [lien] [EN]
The Great American Bake Sale
The Great American Bake Sale · Posted by Editor · April 16, 2008 Posted by Sandy Smith on Paper Palate. Every baker has one — the cookbook that is grease spotted and batter flecked, dog eared, flour dusted, and perhaps has more than one spread of pages honey-glued together. But it's the book we keep going back to. The one that has the lemon bar recipe we never “adjust.” The chocolate chip cookies better (gasp!) than Mom's. The peanut butter fudge bars we're asked to bring to every single potluck we've attended since that first time we blithely slapped that plate down and everyone got hooked on the magic. This book, The Great American Bake Sale by Alison Boteler, is one such book for me. It's my go-to for chocolate chips, for pecan tassies, and most of all. [lien] [EN]
