Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix dragon punches XBLA
Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade After its official announcement well over a year ago, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is finally landing on Xbox Live Arcade. For the always controversial price of 1200 Microsoft Points, you get a completely redrawn cast of characters and a while slew of reworked backgrounds. Let's not forget the game comes with some revamped tunes as well. Oh, and of course there's the (reportedly) improved netcode too, which will hopefully smooth out those online wrinkles. Go get the trial game and tell us what you think. Was it worth the wait? For that matter, is it worth the scratch? Basically, is it the best around? Super Street Fighter II HD beta impressions
Filed under: News Joystiq has posted their impressions of the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta. You may have heard that the beta has some rather serious issues, and Josytiq's experience has been no different (for what it's worth, we haven't experienced any problems just playing 1-on-1 quick matches). That said, once the game actually does work, it's a lot of fun. Make no mistake, this is just Super Street Fighter II with a new coat of pixels, but there isn't really anything wrong with that. One thing that needs to be made clear is that the game plays much better than Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting, the iteration of the series that's already availble on XBLA. The lag found in Hyper Fighting seems to have been alleviated this time around (so far, we've only experienced lag one time). We just hope you have a better control option than the standard 360 controller. Head over to Joystiq for their full impressions of the beta. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments [lien] [EN]
Street Fighter II HD Remix Shows Off Its Combos [Super Street Fighter Ii Turbo Hd Remix]
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is coming...sometime soon, and Capcom has released a teaser video showing off some of the combo moves you can pull off in the rebuilt version of the classic fighter. To some of you, these moves will be very familiar. To a Street Fighter player as skill as I am not, these are the sort of moves I only ever pull off on accident. The key lies in making it look as if you did it on purpose. I find that shouting the word "Face!" seems to help. Super Street Fighter II HD Remix developers now remixing monsters
Filed under: News, Video, Screens Backbone Entertainment, the developers of the Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo and Super Street Fighter II remakes, as well as the DS Death Jr. game and various other projects, have announced a new original Wii game to be published by Eidos. Monster Lab takes place in the hilariously-named Uncanny Valley, in which the player, as a mad scientist's apprentice, mixes and matches monster parts to create original creations. The gameplay involves finding parts out in the wild, then taking them back to the lab and performing alchemical, mechanical, and biological experiments on them to augment them. Once you've built a monster, you then take it out into the world and control it in battles! Monster Lab even features online battling and trading. With millions of possible combinations, this game could have some serious long-term replayability. Or you could just make monsters over and over. Super Street Fighter II HD looks slightly less appealing, to some
Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade Maybe it's just us but Super Street Fighter II HD Remix looks hella pretty. Pretty perfect, actually. Unfortunately some videophiles may not agree as news has come out that SSFIIHDR upscales in-game character sprites and crops backgrounds when played in 16:9 wide screen. According to notorious pixel counters Digital Foundry, SSFIIHDR is scaling characters and cropping backgrounds because the game was developed to be played old school, that is to say using 4:3 aspect ratio. While we like our games pretty we just don't see enough issue and it becomes even less apparent while you're playing the game. Videophiles have a right to know, though. Street Fighter Club Invades Brooklyn [Street Fighter]
Capcom held a Street Fighter Club event for a select group of its Unity members Friday night in Brooklyn. Invitees got a chance to play Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix arcade-style while scarfing down as much pizza and soda as possible. The event was held at a place called Chief Bodega, which plays host to underground concerts and parties. While the address was made secret to the general public, I still managed to make my way out there to get pictures. Couldn't make it? Don't worry, I gotcha covered. Even when I got there about an hour late (hey, it took close to 45 minutes by subway!), there was still a decent sized line waiting to get in. Turns out they were letting people in very slowly as members were forced to read a detailed rules sheet before they were granted entry. There was even this small, old TV setup running the SNES version of Street Fighter II at the registration table. There were several Super Street Fighter Turbo HD Remix kiosks set up in the first floor room that were swarmed with people. The walls were decorated with a variety Street Fighter-related graffiti while a video projector aimed at the ceiling displayed a SF anime. I grabbed a slice of pizza (what was left of it, anyway) and a Pepsi while observing some matches. After about 10 minutes, though, I realized Street Fighter IV was noticeably absent in this room, along with about 100 other people. I noticed a stairway off to the side with the word “Murder” written above it. I figured either I'm going to die when I go down there, or that's where the rest of the Street Fighter kids are. Well, there wasn't any death, just a hot, sweaty basement filled to the brim with people playing Street Fighter IV. It was shoulder-to-shoulder just about anywhere you tried to walk. Some brought their own sticks to use while others used ones that were already there. Both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions were made available, so no console bias here! After talking to some folks for a while, I decided I wanted to get at least one match in before I left. Despite the number of people, the wait to play wasn't too bad. Everyone was respectful and friendly to each other when it came to allowing turns. I ended up playing someone who had won what seemed like eight or nine in a row. As usual, I got my ass kicked in two straight rounds. On my way out I was given a gift bag full of all sorts of goodies. Besides an awesome, one-of-a-kind Street Fighter shirt by Meat Bun (co-owned by Michael McWhertor), I got a red headband, a bar of Street Fighter soap, a comic book, a can of soda, and some other stuff. Overall, it was a great night (free food is always a plus). My only real complaint was the location. Brooklyn? Really, Capcom? There's plenty of room right here in Manhattan! I should also mention on my way to the subway, I came across a fight taking place across the street between some guy without a shirt and a group of people passing by. Nice way to cap off the night! Street Fighter HD filesize no longer an issue
Filed under: News Street Fighter fans put away those shiny pennies in an effort to purchase a PlayStation 3. Game producer, Rey Jimenez, put fears of a "gimped" Xbox 360 version of the upcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to rest with the latest blog post on Capcom's official site. "I can officially say that the filesize will not be an issue," Jimenez said. "With great help from the guys at Microsoft, we will be able to offer the same features on both platforms to the same quality as each other. To use the term I've been reading on the forums, neither console version will be "gimped" due to any kind of limitation." All we can say is phew. This news comes at a perfect time for fans of the series who have recently been told about a beta test program that will be rolling out this Spring. The last thing we can hope for is that the "compression ninjas" at Microsoft will help with that Bionic Commando: Rearmed issue as well. New SFII HD Art Shows Stern Faces, Clean Armpits [Super Street Fighter Ii Turbo Hd Remix]
Udon, longtime SFII and Capcom collaborators, have released some of their character art that'll feature in SFII HD. Namely, the little portraits that'll appear on the character select screen. These ones below aren't little, though. They're the big versions. Plenty big enough to show that Cammy's armpits are fully prepared for the extra scrutiny the HD era affords. galleryPost('sfiichar', 3, 'Street Fighter II HD Character Art'); Character Select Screen Art from Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix [Capcom] [lien] [EN]
Street Fighter 2 HD to release 'very soon'
Filed under: News, Xbox Live Arcade Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix has been in development for quite a while and even after a beta test we still don't have a firm release date. Capcom is secretive, that's just how they roll. So, when our Joystiq pals received a teaser email from team Capcom proclaiming that SSFIITHDR would be releasing to the Xbox Live Arcade "very soon", our inner Street Fighter fanboy was tickled with excitement. Exactly how soon is "very soon"? We dunno, but sooner or later we'll know what "very soon" means and will soon have SSFIITHDR ... soon. Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments [lien] [EN]
