Random Weekend Reader
SINCE I’M BROKE and the economy has been tanking I’ve been perusing a lot of economics blogs. One of my new favorites is Queer Cents, a blog that talks money management with a focus on and around the queer community. Pros: posts on topics such as how to buy dresses when you look like a man, ways to avoid medical bankruptcy, and how to write letters to fix your credit report. Cons: many of the writers assume you have money to throw around in the first place. Still, great advice and worthy of the blogroll. FOR OTHER COOL economics blogs, see Feminist Finance and her posts on things such as saving your money on stuff like diamond engagement rings and how parents approach girls and boys on saving or spending their allowances. ANOTHER ROLL-WORTHY BLOG that I’ve been salivating over is Post. [lien] [EN]

Filed under: Meta Yeah dude, that's totally Mike Sylvester there at the meetup last night. Other surprise guests showed up, as well as tons and tons of readers (who, in turn, walked away with tons and tons of free swag). Overall, it was a great success. You wouldn't believe how fast pizza goes at a Joystiq meetup! For those of you who had to sit this one out, relive the fun by checking out our photo gallery below. Geotagging Photos on a Budget: ATP GPS Gadget Does It Like a Card Reader [Gadgets]
If you're a keen geotagger of your imagery, then a recently announced $150 device from ATP Electronics may be just the ticket. Dubbed the GPS Photo Finder, it works in a rather carefree way: you just... [lien] [EN]
Chicago Gizmodo Party, In Photos [Reader Meetup]
Thanks again to everyone who made it out to the Hotel Sax for the Gizmodo's Chicago reader meetup. For those who didn't make it out, I think the night went pretty well, as people alternated between the line for the bar and the dual Rock Band 2 stations, the official ecosystem of the event. We never got a firm headcount, but we'd estimate the attendance to have been just south of 200 people, an eclectic mix of ages, professions and musical abilities. Click through for the full gallery. galleryPost('chicagoparty', 9,''); Hopefully we can all meet up again in the future. And a special thanks to the Hotel Sax for throwing such a successful event. Photo Of Boys Kissing Enrages, Confuses Kentuckians [Gay Panic]

Apologies For Poor Photo Choice Exercised In IDT Article [Corrections]
Part of our job here as we incorporate The Conglomerist into the fold of Haberdasher Communications (tagline: let's keep it under our hat, shall we?) is to clean up some of the ethical missteps taken by The Consumerist, particularly with regards to its notoriously corrupt photo selection department. Dipping into the mailbag, Marc writes:An avid reader of your website, I was a little bit concerned by the choice of picture to illustrate the "IDT Energy Scamming Spreads Past New York City" story. Granted, the picture shows an IDT building in the background, but in the foreground are catenary wires, which are quite distinctive from power distribution wires... Catenary wires are used to deliver electric power to trains and thus are designed to very narrow specifications (after all, they have to be able to be touched by trains moving as fast as 120 miles per hour). Photos from Lulu's Bake Shoppe
A reader who goes by chinese liaison sent in these photos of tiramisu and Boston Cream Pie cupcakes from Boston's very popular Lulu's Bake Shoppe to give a visual to this post, which looks at a comparison of Boston's cupcakes. See also The Tasty Show's Boston cupcake rundown. [lien] [EN]
PHOTO: Dell Breaks Your Laptop, Sends Replacement Full Of Pubes [Dell]
Reader K's call to Dell tech support for his laptop resulted in the tech helping him break a different computer, then sending him a replacement laptop full of human pubic hair. After diagnosing a faulty power adapter with K's laptop, the Dell technician asked him to plug the malfunctioning adapter into his other, out-of-warranty Dell to confirm the problem. K was reluctant, but complied, and fried his old laptop in the process. To their credit, Dell offered a replacement; unfortunately, it had a full bush. Full email, with picture, below (photo is NSFL: Not Safe For Lunch). So I rarely resort to complaints as I think I am an easygoing consumer, but this time Dell went over the line. Maybe I just needed to write this email to vent, but I think it may be worth a post on your site... Recently my 1 year old Dell laptop stopped charging the battery. [lien] [EN]
Exclusive Photos: Psystar's Case, Shipping Contents [Exclusive Photos]
Reader Patrick sent us these photos of his Psystar machine, which was captured in video earlier today. Here's what these photos tell us. One, Psystar's claim of not being able to reinstall Leopard by yourself is totally true. The package only came with a retail version of Leopard—still shrink-wrapped no less—which doesn't let you install, non-hacked, onto white box machines. It also came with a couple adapters, a power cord, a couple CDs and a case that's largely empty and fairly expandable. Hit the jump to expand the gallery. galleryPost('psystarpics', 3, ''); [lien] [EN]
Exclusive Photo Of John 'WALNUTS!' McCain! [John McCain]
Reader Mactastic scored a citizen-snapped photo of this charming geezer, writing, "He is either posing to appear younger than he is (fierce!) or his left eye is decomposing in its socket because he is the oldest man on earth and he has to squint to hold it in. Whatever the reason, he looks dumb in pictures and is therefore not good enough to be America's Next Top Commander in Chief." [lien] [EN]
McCain photos
I realize most of my readers are unenthused about him, but I like him and Craig Cunningham posted a nice photo gallery of his visit to St. Albans, W.Va., on Friday. This entry was posted on Saturday, May 17th, 2008 at 11:30 am and is filed under McCain. You can follow any responses to this entry through the RSS 2.0 feed. Those Highly-Anticipated Miley Cyrus 'First Kiss' Photos Worth $150K? Yeah, We Got 'Em Already [Making Out With Miley]
At this point, seeing photos of 15-year old Miley Cyrus posing topless or seductively baring her taut tummy for rumored paramour Nick Jonas is the very definition of old news. But when it comes to the tween millionaire appearing in photos actually kissing a boy (or, gasp, a girl!) in public, these photos would likely tighten a few paparazzo's trousers. As the LA Times reports today, pictures of Miley's “first kiss” could potentially earn one lucky photographer anywhere between $30k to $150k. And we are officially confused. Why? Well, we happen to have more than a few pictures of Miley making out with all kinds of suitors, starting back when she was 14. So where's our cash? After the jump, see how the magic of Google can instantly debunk all the heated speculation on when Miley will have her first kiss. [lien] [EN]
