Retired generals meet with Obama to urge a clean break from Bush’s detainee policies.
Addressing speculation that he “is unlikely to radically overhaul controversial Bush administration intelligence policies,” President-elect Barack Obama pledged last month to end torture as part of “an effort to regain America’s moral stature in the world.” Today, a dozen retired generals and admirals will meet with Obama’s transition team “to plead for a clean, unequivocal [...]

General Joins Obama in Iowa
NEVADA, Iowa – Merrill A. McPeak, a retired Air Force general who campaigned for Bob Dole in 1996 and George W. Bush in 2000, told a crowd of 300 today that Barack Obama is “what the joint chiefs want to see – somebody they can rely and depend on.” General McPeak, a former member of the joint chiefs of staff who commanded the air war during Operation Desert Storm, appeared today with the senator on the campaign trail. He endorsed the senator with an ad titled “Gulf” that was released in October. “Judgment is what we need in our next commander-in-chief,” the retired general said in the ad. “The old Washington hands have let us down. We need a new leader to lift America.” Although he campaigned for President Bush in 2000, the general later said that he knew the president’s father. [lien] [EN]

Architect of Bush's Detainee Policies to Step Down

Obama Interfered with Bush’s Negotiations About Iraq
Via Drudge, we learn that Obama interfered with President Bush’s negotiations with Iraqi officials about the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq: At the same time the Bush administration was negotiating a still elusive agreement to keep the U.S. military in Iraq, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to convince Iraqi leaders in private conversations that the president shouldn’t be allowed to enact the deal without congressional approval. Mr. Obama’s conversations with the Iraqi leaders, confirmed to The Washington Times by his campaign aides, began just two weeks after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination in June and stirred controversy over the appropriateness of a White House candidate’s contacts with foreign governments while the sitting president is conducting a war. Clinton (Bill, That Is) Meets Obama on N. Korea
The meeting between President Obama and former President Bill Clinton went into overtime at the White House on Tuesday afternoon. For 0 minutes in the Situation Room, Mr. Clinton delivered his first face-to-face briefing with Mr. Obama about what he saw during a trip to North Korea earlier this month. The two men continued their discussion for another 0 minutes in the Oval Office. Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, provided no details of either meeting. But the appearance by Mr. Clinton on Tuesday in the lower level of the West Wing was rich with symbolism, particularly since it was only Mr. Clinton’s second visit to the White House since Mr. Obama took office. This meeting represented a rare, substantive conversation between the former Democratic president and the current one. [lien] [EN]

Breaking: Bush, Cheney in W.H. while thousands die in their wars, economy tanks, etc. - also, Hillary in W.H. when Bill had affair
WASHINGTON -- New found evidence has shown that President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney were officially in the White House when two wars were ordered, leading to widespread death and a complete embarrassment for the nation as both wars turned into horrible failures while leaving the nation's military in shambles, according to experts. The new evidence also points out that Bush and Cheney were in the White House as the nation's economy tanked, home foreclosures went through the roof, the federal deficit exploded, widespread corruption occurred, oil and gas prices hit record highs, and wealth inequality widened substantially. The evidence also points that Bush and Cheney were in the White House when Habeas Corpus ceased to exist in the U.S., torture became legalized, and eavesdropping on Americans became commonplace. Don’t fear the Obama
NYT joins the VRWC. OK. That’s an exaggeration. But the New York Times raised a good question today. Democratic Sen. Barack Obama canceled a trip to visit wounded soldiers in Germany. Instead he used the time for a workout and a CNN interview. Republican Sen. John McCain’s campaign took Obama to task, saying the visit was a photo op that was canceled when the Pentagon would not allow a retired general on Obama’s campaign staff to accompany Obama. Like most every other media outlet, the Times let Obama’s people respond. It was a tortured excuse that requires the suspension of disbelief. The Times then raised the question (and allowed Obama’s people to respond): If the story behind the story of the canceled troop visit has run its course. [lien] [EN]
Meet Obama’s female doppleganger, Baldilocks
Blogger Baldilocks has a fascinating story on her own. But it’s even more fascinating these days because it runs roughly parallel for a while to that of none other than Senator Obama, although it then veers off rather dramatically from his. Please take a look at this LA Times interview with Baldilocks, aka [...] [lien] [EN]
Obama’s Evolving National Security Policy
[Guest post by DRJ] These Obama policy waffles noticed by Ed Morrissey at Hot Air are examples of why I don’t trust Obama and his supporters on national security: “Earlier today, I noted that Barack Obama's team has started hinting that they will move back towards John McCain's position on interrogation techniqiues. Now supporters of Obama who have criticized the Bush administration's position on indefinite detention have begun rethinking that policy as well[.]” Presidents must adjust their policies as events unfold but there’s nothing new here except Obama has shifted from candidate to President-elect. If Obama follows through on his campaign promises, he would prohibit many CIA interrogation techniques and close GTMO, even if that meant releasing detainees into American society. [lien] [EN]
