Fast and furious sur iPhone

Leaked Document Shows Verizon's Psi Ops Anti-iPhone Propaganda [Sour Grapes]

Oh deary deary me... Verizon's tactics to combat the Jesusphone 3G now include briefing its employees about the iPhone's failings, so they can answer customer questions about why it doesn't carry the device. There are four big "myths" about the cellphone apparently, ranging from "twice as fast" to "iPhone data plan covers all data," there's even a dig about the lack of audible turn-by-turn GPS navigation. Hasn't Verizon worked out that that's just an app, and is a facility that may yet be added in the future? My fave "mythbusting" point has to be that the iPhone 3G "will be twice as fast only where AT&T has 3G coverage!" No shit... like, you can only run trains on train tracks? OK, so it's really a dig at AT&T's 3G coverage, but you get my point. This has apparently been distributed within Verizon. [lien] [EN]

AT&T Won't Sell You iPhone Because "You're Going To Unlock It" [Complaints]

Colin writes:I went into my nearest ATT store and there were two CSR's behind the counter- I asked for an 8gig Refurb iPhone thats being sold for $249 and the kid said sure and walked me over to the desk. The next words out of his mouth "What is your social security number?" No "How are you today?" "Thanks for coming in" No, apparently they just want my credit report to see if I am "worthy" "Um. What? Why do you need that?" He tells me that its necessary for activating a new account "I don't want an account now, I will activate on iTunes later" He turns and asks some other CSR if they can sell it without activation- to which the other CSR says "No" I say, ok, whatever, I'll buy the phone and just cancel the service, then I can keep the phone because I am paying full price for it. "No. [lien] [EN]

Pinewood Derby iPhone: And You Thought the 3G Was Fast [Iphone Derby]

If you were a Boy Scout at one time, you probably had a flashback after reading the words "Pinewood Derby." For the uninitiated, the derby is a time honored tradition where Cub Scouts race small cars they construct from a block of wood, plastic wheels and some nails. As you can see, this particular car is expertly crafted into an iPhone lookalike. The car was designed by one of the professional print, web, and environmental designers attending a derby for charity put on by the Columbus Society of Communication Professionals—so it is not a true Pinewood Derby car. To be honest, I don't think that this would even pass strict Boy Scout regulations. Nonetheless, it is a damn fine looking car and it appears to be up to date with 2.0 software. Unfortunately, we don't know if this thing is truly state. [lien] [EN]

Five million iPhones headed to China? Not so fast…

The report from earlier this week that China Unicom purchased five million handsets from Cupertino may be false. China Unicom spokesperson Yi Difei is quoted as saying that China Unicom and Apple are still in negotiations and the International Business Times-sourced report about a $5 billion order is not true. Tiffany Yang, an Apple spokesperson in Beijing, also re-iterated that there is no new information about an iPhone agreement with China Unicom. We concede that these official responses may be feeble attempts to defuse a rumor that has spread like wildfire but until official word comes out, we can assume that Apple does not have an additional $5 billion in its coffers. The mother lode of iPhones thought to be en route to China has apparently been stalled and that rumored September launch is still just that… A rumor. [lien] [EN]

8 Squeezes for Your iPhone Battery

-------------------- Dec 5, 2007 8 Squeezes for Your iPhone Battery Posted in Geek at 4:00 pm by David Bradley -- 8 Comments If you’ve just bought an iPhone, you’re probably expecting many happy years of battery power. Well, not so fast. Laptop batteries are very similar to rechargeable batteries in other devices, they wear out. I’ve had my current laptop for about 18 months and in the last few weeks I’ve noticed that I’m not getting quite the battery life from it that I was when I first bought it. I used to be able to run for about 3 hours doing wordprocessing, email, and web browsing even on a wireless connection. Lately, however, the lithium battery seems to run down within an hour or so, which is a real pain when I’m offsite. I checked out Battery University to see if there is anything I can do to get my battery life back to normal. [lien] [EN]
