Belkin Delivers Dual-XLR Audio Recording to the iPod [IPod]

Many portable media players have audio recorders built in so you can record audio directly to them. The iPod does not. Interested in adding that feature? Say hello to Belkin's crazy, $120 solution to this problem: the GoStudio (initially announced as the Podcast Studio. Essentially, it adds an audio-in to your iPod, but it also has a speaker for playing your awkward voice notes back, dual-XLR microphone inputs and a bunch of knobs and stuff for tweaking your recordings. And even though it's expensive and looks all professional, it only records in 16 bit, and we all know that true audio nerds demand 24 bit. It's mucho overkill for people who just want to make voice notes, but if you want to record your band's demo directly to your iPod for some reason this could work for you. [lien] [EN]

Start > Run sndvol32.exe, or click the sound icon in the taskbar if you have it 2. Click Options > Properties 3. Switch to the options for Recording 4. Make sure all of the controls are ‘checked’ and click OK 5. You now may be able to unmute/adjust the mix of ‘Mic’ and ‘Stereo Mix’ in the recording · 2 Susannah Clary Says: June 21st, 2008 at 10:29 AM Great tutorial as always, Torley! I’ve used Audacity for years - it’s easy enough for my middle school students to use too. However, I do have a question about the strict legality of recording others. [lien] [EN]

In Case of Identity Theft, Check Your Criminal Records

In our previous articles, we talked about what to do if your purse or wallet is stolen, and how to freeze your credit reports, how to check your credit reports for free - all the goodies. But what we have not yet covered is one last identity theft essential - checking your criminal records. If you know, or even think that you may be a victim of identity theft, then you need to make a point of checking to see if your name has been used as an alias in a crime. Once a thief has your information, they can use it any way that want to - from making fraudulent charges, selling your identity to others, or even posing as you if they are arrested. There are plenty of online services that you can use to check your criminal records. Unfortunately, most of them cost upwards of $40. In this case, the best thing that you can do to ensure your name has not been used to protect a criminal’s identity is to check your FBI records. [lien] [EN]

breaking records

the brewers’ firing of ned yost is a desperate move, but i think it’s also a rational one. that team clearly needed to change the dynamic. they were flat-out noncompetitive vs the phillies last weekend, getting outscored 26-10; they were nearly as bad against the mets, getting outscored 19-9 in a three-game sweep at the start of this month, and worse against the cubs at the end of july, getting outscored 31-11 in a four-game sweep at home. so they’re 0-11 record in their most recent matchups against teams they’re will have to go through to reach the world series --- or, in the case of the cubs (whom they will play 6 times in the next couple weeks), to reach the postseason. they’ve scored more than 4 runs only once this month, and yielded fewer than 5 only 4 times. i don’t know how much of this is yost’s fault. Why the Dollar Hit a Record Low

Kathy Lien submits: Those who may have hoped for a recovery in the US dollar have been sorely disappointed. The greenback hit a record low against the Euro and it will just be a matter of time before the EUR/USD hits 1.60. Before you know it, we’ll be talking about the possibility of one Euro being worth 2 US dollars. Although this may be far-fetched, who would have thought that the Swiss franc would be worth more than a US dollar? Although the once-mighty greenback faces long-term pressures such as a depressed labor market that is expected to deteriorate further and the strong possibility of another contraction in retail sales, the latest round of dollar weakness was actually triggered by the following: Complete Story » [lien] [EN]

China Sky One Reports Another Record Quarter

ChinaBio Today submits: China Sky One Medical (CSKI.OB) announced record results for the first quarter of 2008. Revenues climbed 140% to $12.4 million and net income jumped a remarkable 170% to $3.9 million. That equates to earnings per share of 26 cents, fully diluted. The 140% increase in revenue continues a series of 140% increases that the company recorded in late 2007 quarters and for all of 2007. These big jumps in revenue started in Q2 of 2007, so comparisons for the rest of 2008 will be more challenging. From here forward, the revenue increases versus year-earlier numbers are projected by analysts to be in the 60%-70% range – that’s still very respectable growth, and especially strong when compared with the revenues of two years earlier.
