Where to find Happiness
This is a guest post written by Alex Ion of SocialPacks.com.
If you’re on the lookout for happiness, chances are it’s going to take awhile to find it. This isn’t because happiness is elusive, but simply because you’re not looking in the right place. This is a simple truth but too often we forget that we need to identify with our inner happiness in order for us to realize the happiness that’s around us. Looking for happiness around you will be a futile chase if you don’t learn to benefit from the little joys around you.

Is Your Brain Happy?
As we know, different parts of the brain are involved in different functions. Just as there are parts of the brain involved in depression, there are parts responsible for positive emotion. Further, mounting research suggests that the adult brain is changeable, or “plastic” as opposed to becoming fixed in adolescence. What this means is that although you may be born with a predisposition toward gloominess or anxiety, with a little training, you can coax a fretful mind toward a happier outlook. It would be like Feng Shui for the brain and mind. The emotional floor plan can be altered so that the brain’s furniture can be moved to a more felicitous arrangement. New Memory Game: Birdsongs
We are happy to offer this new game for preview to our members. Click here, login and play! Game Description Learn to recognize bird species by their song. You’ll need to discriminate between images of different species of birds and also between different types of songs. At times, these differences may be subtle, which makes this task especially challenging. Cognitive Function Trained This is a cross-modal task mainly involving the right tempo-parietal regions of the brain. The purpose of this game is to draw upon our working memories of visual and auditory characteristics of each bird, to practice visual-spatial scanning of the images on the screen, and to practice concentration for this type of material. In some cases, deductive reasoning is needed in order to choose the right match. [lien] [EN]

Why Emotion Boosts Memory
Have you ever wondered why you remember so vividly that argument you had with your boss 3 months ago or the first time you kissed your husband or wife? If yes, you may have thought that your memory for these events was vivid because they occurred when you were experiencing a strong emotion: anger or happiness. And you were right! Emotionally charged events are usually much better remembered than less emotionally charged events. But why would that be the case? A study published this month seems to have the answer: a state of high emotion triggers the release of norepinephrine, a hormone that increases the activity of nerve cells. This results in unusually strong memory circuits in the brain. Read more here… This entry was posted on Friday, October 19th, 2007 at 8:45 am and is filed under Uncategorized. [lien] [EN]

Knowing How to Use a Computer Can Be Empowering.
The question often arises whether elderly people who are unfamiliar with computers might become hesitant or discouraged when they attempt to engage in cognitive training exercises. Just the process of mastering computer access, even with just one application, can be a huge confidence building opportunity, which itself boosts brain stimulation. Although elders may need more time, patience and assistance in learning computer systems, many are embracing this new technology. The use of Happy Neuron games via computer is part of the novel experience and learning process that one needs on a daily basis to maintain optimal mental health. It is in itself a cognitive stimulating activity. Furthermore, computers and internet access have been widely argued to be vital to the quality of life of elders. [lien] [EN]
An Interview with Dr. Bernard Croisile, MD.
I thought to share with you a recent interview with Founder Dr. Bernard Croisile, Neurologist, Neuropsychologist and Happy Neuron’s Chief Scientist, about age related brain decline and what can be done. As we age, what issues do people most complain about? When we age, certain cognitive difficulties are usually more annoying than really hindering. These difficulties are usually due to a greater sensitivity to interferences (noise, conversations with several persons), a lesser attention and greater amount of time to simultaneously analyze several pieces of informations (cooking and understanding a slightly technical conversation at the same time). Information processing is often more superficial, organizing and sorting data to be memorized occurs more slowly and producing mental images becomes more difficult. [lien] [EN]
