With most of the votes counted, Mrs. Clinton won 55 percent of the state. But uncommitted scooped up 40 percent. That's a lot of people who took the trouble to go out to the polls and vote — for no one. Supporters of Senator Barack Obama and former Senator John Edwards, who were not on the ballot, had urged their faithful to go out and vote for uncommitted. So I was watching "Hardball" tonight, and Chris Matthews turned to his cadre of sycophants and asked the question on everyone's mind. No, not "Why does anyone watch this crapfest?" This is an oft-repeated trope, that Clinton knows that she can't get the nomination, but that she's hoping to damage Obama so badly that he loses in November, thus allowing her to come back and win triumphantly in 2012. I think the only proper response to this theory comes from the movie Billy Madison: The idea that Hillary Clinton is laying the groundwork for a 2012 revival is ludicrous.
