November 2007 Roundup I apologize for the lack of posts this month - I’ve been really distracted with making arrangements for my upcoming trip, and food has really been the farthest thing from my mine. Eating this past week has been all about cleaning out the perishables before the end of the year. But there should be some upcoming posts about a couple of things I’ve made this month, along with an overview of our Christmas Eve dinner with family. – A couple of quick notes… Today is the last day to buy your raffle tickets for this year’s Menu for Hope. Managing an Oil & gas Company through an Economic Downturn -What actions are needed?

Set in motion by the global financial markets collapse, oil and gas markets have suffered a huge setback since July of 2008, with commodity prices dropping 66% in just four months.  Energy demand is falling in all sectors of the global economy, caused by falling economic activity. As of November 15th, Equity markets in the US and Europe have fallen approximately 40% YTD.  The lack of credit availability, and the seizing of credit markets, has had an immediate impact on economic activity in all sectors, at all levels.  Toyota announced a 56% reduction in auto sales in the current quarter, the worst decline in 18 years. On November 6th, The European Central Bank cut interest rates for the second time in less than a month as the region's economy suffers its worst slump in 15 years. [lien] [EN]

STW Flicker Challenge for October: Plate it Up! I had two different ideas for this month’s challenge. But an article on plating in today’s Seattle Times pre-empted them both, and inspired me to create this month’s Plate it Up! theme. The article is about transforming a boring plating into something that has more appeal. Despite the title of the piece, which implies that it will be mainly about garnishing, the tips include do’s and don’ts about how to layout the food, how to think about color, and (a little) on saucing.
