No Campaigning but Much Debate Over Florida
Posted by WLS: Obama, in my opinion, still has problems with Jewish voters and older voters with a favorable view of Israel. There also remain unanswered questions concerning his associations with various Pro-Palestinian and anti-Semitic groups. So, this exchange last night really caught my attention.
It was “Hit Mitt” night at St. Anselm College as the Republican candidates gathered for a little pre-primary piling on session with Mitt Romney the target and John McCain the beneficiary. First, a couple of notes on ABC’s format. It was good. It was interesting in the sense that it seemed to encourage a little back and forth – always better than the press conference like atmosphere that is the format for most other debates.
More than any other forum, this debate in South Carolina revealed the growing divisions in the Republican party and highlighted the extraordinarily difficult task that confronts the future nominee. Here is the conumdrum facing the GOP; an awakened social conservative wing whose emergence frightens the Republican establishment and the smaller but influential libertarian conservative faction.
ABC News on Wednesday scrapped plans for a three-person Republican presidential candidate debate, citing scheduling conflicts between John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee. ABC had invited candidates who had won a primary or caucus to participate in a Sunday morning debate to be moderated by George Stephanopoulos, the host of “This Week.
Florida is looking tight on the GOP side. Romney is now 100 percent on his economy message, which has promise. McCain, Inc. cut a new spot to cover McCain's flank on the economy; a smart move and done just in time. McCain appears to have respectable TV buys in key I-4 markets:
