iPhone

I got one... sort of. I bought one for my wife. And trust me when I tell you it is even cooler than the appears in the commercials. I was going to wait for the next generation version to come out, but I might just go ahead and get one. There was no line at the AT&T store at 7AM yesterday morning when I stopped at Starbucks for coffee (they're right next to each other) on my way to work, so I decided I would check back at lunch. There was no line at lunch time either, so I ran home to drop off my computer and went back. In that 30 minutes, a line of 6 people had formed. So, at 12:30, I began my wait... and stupid me, I didn't bring a chair. DOH! The people (mostly male, middle age folks) in line with me were really nice, which certainly helped the time to pass more quickly... until about the last 1/2 hour. [lien] [EN]

8 Squeezes for Your iPhone Battery

-------------------- Dec 5, 2007 8 Squeezes for Your iPhone Battery Posted in Geek at 4:00 pm by David Bradley -- 8 Comments If you’ve just bought an iPhone, you’re probably expecting many happy years of battery power. Well, not so fast. Laptop batteries are very similar to rechargeable batteries in other devices, they wear out. I’ve had my current laptop for about 18 months and in the last few weeks I’ve noticed that I’m not getting quite the battery life from it that I was when I first bought it. I used to be able to run for about 3 hours doing wordprocessing, email, and web browsing even on a wireless connection. Lately, however, the lithium battery seems to run down within an hour or so, which is a real pain when I’m offsite. I checked out Battery University to see if there is anything I can do to get my battery life back to normal. [lien] [EN]

Coming in 2008: iPhone battery rot?

Just picked up Patrick and turns out his iPhone is only lasting a few hours now in standby mode without doing anything on it! So, it’s going into the shop tomorrow. Damn, we sure have a lot of problems with Apple stuff. On the other hand, Dave Winer’s Mac just died and he thinks that only means one thing: a new Mac is coming soon. Well we already KNOW a new iPhone is coming soon, so maybe Dave has a point? Me? Now I know why I keep my Nokia around. Anyone else having problems with iPhone battery life? [lien] [EN]

iPhone Breakthrough: Bookkeeping!

Mobile blogging and multimedia are fine for fake-ass playas, but you Herbert Kornfeld types know accounting is where the real action is at. So you'll no doubt be tripping on news that Intuit has come up with an online version of Quicken optimized for use on the iPhone. It launches Jan. 8 and costs $3 a month. Versions optimized for Blackberries and other mobile devices are in the works. A Quicken exec says the service is meant to appeal to teenagers, who supposedly would love to do some light-duty bookkeeping but can't be bothered to install software. Japanese iPhone is Nigh: Will It Be 3G?

according to the Wall Street Journal, Steve Jobs has been in talks with the president of NTT DoCoMo, Masao Nakamura, about the Japanese iPhone. The majority of the article is hidden behind the WSJ paywall, but from what we can gather, Apple is also in talks with Softbank Corp, the third largest operator in Japan (NTT is the top dog), with Jobs presumably playing the two companies against each other to get his infamous cut of the telco's profits. Most interesting, though, is a little fact pointed out by Engadget: NTT DoCoMo is an HSDPA carrier. We know there will be a 3G iPhone next year, so this will probably be it. 'iPhone' is 2007's Fastest-Rising Global Search Term, According To Google

It's undisputable that 2007 has been the year of the iPhone and here's some news to confirm it: Google's Zeitgeist site placed the Jesus phone's official name as the fastest rising search term around the globe. However, it failed to reach the top of Google News' most popular terms list, coming in at the sixth slot, right after '2007 cricket world cup,' 'Chris Benoit,' and 'Britney Spears.' 'American Idol,' rather unbelievably, was the top searched term on Google News. For a few years, Google has been releasing a list of the top searches all over the world and compiling them to its Zeitgeist page at year's end, often leading to collective head scratching over the true nature of the culture's mind-state. 'Britney,' really? What other terms did you think would show up on this list? We personally thought 'Obama' and 'Green. [lien] [EN]

iPowerRush Gives Your iPod / iPhone a Boost

Oregon-based Fusion Audio Technologies (FAT? Seriously?) announced the availability of their new power extender for iPods and the iPhone this past Friday. Pulling its juice from six AAA batteries, the iPowerRush can turn the standard "oh crap my iPhone is about to die" dash home into a simple flip of a switch. FAT reports that the iPowerRush can pump an extra 10-15 hours of operation into the iPod depending on usage. iPhone battery life is extended by three hours of continuous internet usage, four hours of talk time or 120 hours of standby time. Available on their site for $30, the peace of mind that the iPowerRush provides is well worth the price of admission. Read [lien] [EN]

5 millions iPhones sold?

That’s what rumor site 9to5 Mac is claiming. The site posits that Apple is poised to announce that it has sold 5 million iPhones. The announcement will supposedly come during January’s Macworld Keynote address. Given Steve Jobs’ initial desire to push 10 million units by the end of 2008, it’s safe to say that the company could be well on their way to achieving that goal. If true, this announcement would be the first official iPhone sales milestone following the initial "1 million sold celebration" that occurred just 74 days after the product’s launch. We’ll have to wait until Macworld to find out for sure, but we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this turns out to be true. Read [lien] [EN]

Year of the iPhone

Farhad Manjoo at Salon offers a measured take on the iPhone, while still declaring it the Technology of the Year. He says it marks a new way of living. For some people constant access to the Internet is a pleasant dream, while for others it’s a dreaded nightmare. This year, for all of us, it became a reality, the unavoidable future. I’m waiting for the gPhone because of its commitment to openness, and also, because, um, I still have time on my indentured servitude to AT&T Cingular AT&T.
