Calm yourself Michelle. Be EZ.
Coming out of Michigan in ‘93 it seemed Chris was headed for the same success he’d had in college. The second sophomore drafted first overall (Magic), was in a position early to contend for a championship with the passionate Warriors. Remember how Spreewell was dunking on everyone?
GS was amassing multiple 50 win seasons with the likes of Spreewell.

Off the court he’s done more than anybody in the city of Miami, he is a guy who is relentless with what he wants to do for children in Miami. (On Wednesday night) I told him, ‘Now you start your life after basketball, continue on the path of giving back and you can start being a business man. Chris Webber still wants to play, prefers Detroit
From J.A. Adande at ESPN (hat-tip: Fel): Fourteen-year veteran Chris Webber is close to returning to the NBA, with the Pistons his likely destination, a source close to Webber told ESPN.com. “Look for him to be back the first week of January,” the source said. The Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers had also inquired about Webber’s services, with the Heat intensifying their efforts after backup center Alonzo Mourning suffered an apparent season-ending injury to his patellar tendon in a game at Atlanta Wednesday night. But for Webber, a Michigan native, his familiarity with the Pistons players and coach Flip Saunders’ system after playing there last season appears to make them the most desirable team. I have absolutely no idea if the Pistons even want him (update. [lien] [EN]
The Greatness of Chris Webber
Chris Webber announced his retirement this week. And almost immediately we were treated to a couple of articles reviewing C-Webb’s career and wondering “what might have been?” Webber never won when it mattered most [Johnny Ludden, Yahoo! As is often the case, I am going to offer a different perspective. Where Webber is the Best Webber was a star player at the University of Michigan, leading his team to the NCAA Final Four in both 1992 and 1993. What Do Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, and Tim Duncan have in Common?
The NBA has instituted a variety of caps on payroll. There is the famous salary cap, which limits how much each team can spend on its payroll. There is also a maximum salary, which is a cap on individual player salaries (and yes, this would be better called a salary cap). And finally there is a cap on rookie pay, which limits how much a draft choice can earn on his first contract. All of these restrictions are designed to limit a player’s pay. And whenever we observe an employer trying to limit an employee’s pay, we suspect that those workers might be exploited. As noted before, exploitation is defined as a level of pay that is below the revenue the worker is generating for the firm. If a worker is paid $10 an hour, but only generates $8 of value, then that worker is not exploited. [lien] [EN]
Roger Clemens is Bad for Kids (Updated)
The good folks from the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association are having some second thoughts about having Roger Clemens speak at their annual session next month. Clemens, an avid Texas sports supporter, had been scheduled for the last eight months to discuss his methods on pitching and his health regimen. But following allegations in the Mitchell Report that the seven-time Cy Young Award winner used steroids, the Texas coaches are apprehensive. "A dark cloud has been put over Roger's head and 99.9% of the media says he's guilty even though he says he's innocent," said Jim Long, the president of the association and coach at Brenham High School.Suddenly, Clemens' name has vanished from the convention's agenda on the group's Web site, but they are expected to make a decision by 3pm Tuesday afternoon on whether he'll be invited to speak. Roger Clemens is in a bit of a sticky wicket.
So Roger Clemens testified the other day that he's totally never used steroids, ever. And while there are rumors that he used them, including allegations from a former trainer, there's no proof that Clemens ever used steroids, so...wait, what's this? A report from ESPN? Former personal trainer Brian McNamee has turned physical evidence that he believes will show Roger Clemens used performance-enhancing drugs over to federal investigators, his attorneys told the New York Daily News. "This is evidence the government has that we believe will corroborate Brian in every significant way," McNamee lawyer Earl Ward told the Daily News. The lawyers wouldn't discuss what the evidence is, but a source told the Daily News that McNamee gave vials with traces of steroids and human growth hormone. [lien] [EN]
Roger Clemens, Steroids, and Bringing People Together
Did Roger Clemens take steroids? The following paragraph appeared in the New York Times this Sunday: Last week, Roger Clemens made the rounds on Capitol Hill to rebut charges by Brian McNamee, his former trainer, that he used steroids and human growth hormone late in his career. In addition, Clemens’s agents from Hendricks Sports Management have provided a report loaded with numbers - 45 pages, 18,000 words and 38 charts - to support his position. You can find the report at the Web site http://www.rogerclemensreport.com/. This was the opening paragraph in the following Keeping Score column authored by Eric Bradlow, Shane Jensen, Justin Wolfers and Adi Wyner. A Forum on the Career of Roger Clemens
In an effort to further our debate over what the statistics say about Roger Clemens’s possible steroid use, Dave Berri asked Justin Wolfers and I to address our disagreement on Wages of Wins. So here we have two of my friends appearing to have a very public disagreement. And this led me to think of my role in life as a uniter (yes, I have always thought of myself as a uniter, not a divider). So last night I sent the following e-mail to both Bradbury and Wolfers. Would each of you agree with the following statements? Justin and company are arguing that the statistics do not show Clemens is innocent. JC is arguing that the statistics do not show that Clemens is guilty. Both Bradbury and Wolfers graciously responded to my inquiry. And each also agreed to let me post their responses. [lien] [EN]
Would Bush pardon Roger Clemens?
Longtime trainer Brian McNamee has accused pitcher Roger Clemens of taking performance-enhancing drugs in 1998, 2000, and 2001. Clemens has denied these charges under oath. Yesterday, one of McNamee’s lawyers took a slap at the Bush administration and said that even if Clemens is found guilty of lying, he may receive a presidential pardon: [...] [lien] [EN]

Karl Rove Portends a Roger Clemens Pardon [Politics]
GQ interviews beloved and chatty former Bush adviser Karl Rove. Q: "Wait, quickly: Do you believe Roger Clemens?" A: "Um, yes, I do." Ok! Rove also repeatedly asks to go off the record whenever he wants to deliver a POTENTIALLY CONTROVERSIAL opinion, because he, as a true friend of The Free Press, loves nothing more than disseminating his manipulative bullshit via anonymous quotes and suggestions in millions of news stories. On the record, he's just a bit of a testy dork. Off the record he'll tell you what an anonymous Republican operative really thinks of Barack Obama! [GQ] [lien] [EN]
