Last night, SDWest hosted the 18th annual Jolt Awards. . the Oscars of our industry” according to Chad Fowler. Both Zend Framework and Zend’s DevZone were nominated for Jolt Awards this year.
As Cal posted on devzone, Zend Framework was awarded the Jolt Productivity Award last week. Although Google Guice took first place this is still a great acknowledgment for how far the Zend Framework has come. Thanks to its use-at-will architecture and flexibility we are seeing an increasing amount of business critical PHP applications being built on Zend Framework, both new and existing projects which are incrementally adopting it.
Ok, ZendCon is over and I’m back to surfing for things you will find interesting. Two articles posted that I didn’t cover but feel they are content rich enough to mention are “Create a productivity package with the Zend Framework V1. and Google Apps” and “How We Built a Web Hosting Infrastructure on EC2”.
I am pleased to announce the release of Zend Framework 1. now available for download on the framework website. This mini-release resolves 79 known issues and provides some additions to functionality.
We’ve gotten a lot of feedback since the 1. release of Zend Framework in June. Our developers have come to love the power and flexibility of our framework, which has dramatically simplified hundreds of projects ranging from the rich interfaces of fledgling Web 2. businesses to integration with legacy systems in the enterprise.

It is my pleasure to announce the availability of Zend Framework 1. Preview Release! This release showcases features that will be introduced in the final 1. release. The intent of this release is to give our users access to the latest features in Zend Framework and to improve the overall quality of the production release through the feedback we receive.
Probably my one favorite aspects of Zend Framework is that you can pull pieces out and use them by themselves without having to build a complete MVC installation. Not that building out a complete installation is difficult but there are times when you just need a small piece, not the entire puzzle.

Like Action Helpers, which I've discussed in a previous article, Front Controller Plugins in Zend Framework are often considered an esoteric, advanced subject. They are, however, remarkably simple to implement, and provide an easy way to extend the functionality and behavior of your entire web application.
